Old chairs from Soviet times are becoming a thing of the past. Nowadays it’s not so easy to find something like this. They are being replaced by more modern options.
Most modern models do not survive even 10 years, but there are options that have retained their quality, but have only lost their appearance.
These include an Ikea chair in the Scandinavian style, not a rocking chair, but springy and can rock, comfortable, cozy, light, all the curves in it are thought out. How I wanted something like this for myself.
My friend has had this chair for over 20 years, and she always sat on it every time she came to visit her. Now she has changed her furniture, but she wanted to throw this out. I took it for myself.
Despite years of use, the frame is in perfect condition, although it has been repainted several times, and the chair itself is good, only the fabric is dirty.
When we started looking, it turns out that it consists of 2 parts and is held on by 4 bolts.
First you need to put the frame in order. At first I wanted to sand the old paint with sandpaper, but the layer was too thick.
So I applied the remover. After a few minutes, the white paint rose and rose. After an hour of work, not a trace remained of her.
The chair itself was washed well. I scrubbed it with a brush and washing gel and sprayed it with water from a hose. All the water quickly drained away and in the morning the chair was dry.
The frame was painted with brown Dulux floor paint, the quality is super, it covers the first time without streaks, and dries quickly.
The main difficulty was to figure out how to reupholster the chair; it was made in such a way that the upholstery was sewn in a monolith on all sides to metal pipes, without nails.
She twisted, turned, and applied new fabric. I decided to make a new case based on the principle of a pillowcase. I measured the width of the chair and cut out a strip of that size based on the thickness of the seat. I measured the length from the top and bottom of the chair.
For decoration I made a combined cover.

There is a smell under the seat, like on a pillow, then I sewed it up by hand. The main thing here is that the cover is close to the chair.
I sewed small squares from fabric, sewed them on both sides with a gypsy needle, connecting the cover and the chair.
Everything turned out to be not as scary as it seemed.
We connected two new parts again.
Now there is no trace left of the old chair; it looks as if it came straight from the assembly line.
Now a friend comes to visit me and takes the first comfortable place that was once hers.
