Let me be the voice of reason and say both are right. When bass are aggressive it don’t matter what you put in front of them. Other times lure, profile, action, speed, COLOR, and even scent (trigger), matter. Not to forget the million other conditions and variables the PROS are so good at reading like weather, water clarity, current and so on. We are all just different on how much of it we are willing to entertain. Make no mistake, the best of them see details we can’t even imagine. Cheers!

I know Ben doesn’t really like modifying his baits, but I really like being able to simplify my tackle box and go down to like 4-5 colors max and fill in the blanks with a pack of Spike-It Markers. Red, Blue, Chartreuse and Orange markers come in a pack together, and with just a white, green pumpkin and electric shad you can basically cover any scenario about as well as you’d need to. This really helps me fit all the tackle I want into my kayak, and though I don’t get all the flake color varieties, I can easily turn white into citrus shad, green pumpkin into a colorful bluegill, or a baby bass/electric shad color into an awesome orange bellied perch

I live in an area with no shad- our bass, the natural populations anyway, feed on bluegill, shiner, baby bass, and craws mostly- and the color "sun-gill" excels here. It's just green pumpkin with a chartreus belly but the spots absolutely go nuts for it. Even in clearer water they'll hit it- so do the largemouth really. I don't get a chance to fish for them as much but, they hit it as well. We do tend toward stained water- muddy at times, but like I said- even in clearer water they like it. As far as how much a pay attention to color- totally depends on what I'm fishing. If it's a reaction bait I don't worry near as much about it as if it's a slow-moving bottom bait. I don't think they have time to assess color when reacting to a faster moving bait- I just want something I think they can see and something that's not so loud or odd that it freaks them out. But, if I'm fishing a ned rig, Texas rigged plastic, jig, etc- then I worry quite a bit about it because I think they're going to be inspecting the bait. If I fished nothing but swim baits like King Jeffrey, I doubt I would think much of color either.

Color 100% matters. Are there times the fish are stupid? Absolutely, but if you're buying baits, why not focus your purchases on colors that the fish will bite when they're NOT biting anything that hits the water? I've seen days where an oxblood worm ohtfishes bold bluegill and vice versa, and that's a tiny 4.5" worm. I think fish see and analyze a lot. Something small and natural isn't a marlin jig. A bass gets a good long time to analyze what they're about to eat. Even marlin guys acknowledge that color is super important. Time of day, distance behind the boat. Etc.

Very good. I have spent a lifetime fishing. Color makes a huge difference. For example, l have with partners throwing the same bait, same line, different color throwing in the same area and one color with out a doubt caught 3 times more fish 🐟 Seen it over and over.

Hey Ben. Ask Mr. Pro Jeff if color didn’t matter why are all the manufactures offer different colors on every single bait they produce. P.S. I’ll out fish him in numbers and in weight any day of the year. Based just on just color alone. I’ll pick his color too. (which will be crystal clear)and mine whatever I choose for that day. Hey Jeff stay behind the camera because you are wrong this time. Lmao. !!! Great job to the both of you. Merry Christmas. Mike V.

They offer lots of colors to sell lots of baits. I think maybe 5 colors or so are all that's needed.

I realized color mattered when I was using a California Craw color on smallies and they wouldn't eat it. My wife put a yoga pants color in front and bam. Another time I was DS with goby flat worm and no bites until I switch to smoke with purple fleck. Try going to crank yankin country in TN and tell them color don't matter. You might get shot lol. According to Geoff all those respect series megabass colors I've purchased are all useless! Lol.

I fish bluegill and crappie eaters. Funny enough bluegill flash and ghost rainbow trout are consistent producers for me, keitech. With a little stain I'll throw ayu in the keitech.

Ben! Yes do the 1v1 it has to happen!! You and I just talked about color the other day. I use a lot of brush hogs and even though they will be biting a watermelon with say purple flake I'll switch to a red or gold or what ever other color of flake and one of them stands out WAYYYYYYYYY more then the rest so I think even when they're fired up a particular color will still work better then the rest it all comes down to what they want that particular moment.

Thanks for the video Ben. Geoff. I think color matters more based on the weather. Cloudy skies...blue sunny skies. Different colors. Sunrise/sunset I use different colors than midday. Water clarity makes a difference too. ✌🏻

How does the skinny dipper factor into this? Basically all shad colors for burning it high in the column?

Same principle. Sparyed grass, green pumpkin, etc for bluegill imitations, Houdini for shiner imitation, so on and so forth.

Fished enough years at night on a lake near me to know that one color ALWAYS out produces anything else. I can't explain why, but it has been verified over and over. So, for sure on this one lake and at night, color definitely matters.

@@clayboone8483 Isn't that crazy, that even at night color plays such a role? It's the same out here.
