I wanted to share a couple of things with the group… 1. My grandparents kept a garden yearly and they always reused their glass jars from olives, pickles and spaghetti sauce to use as mini green houses on chilly nights and when they planted their ‘delicates’ like sweet peas. The flowers would always be planted a few (5) weeks earlier than usual and they were always covered with a jar and watered during the mid-day hours so they wouldn’t freeze and they would have a little bit more of a chance to grow and blossom before winter. 2. Grandpa also kept hay on top of the garlic and winter bulbs during the winter so it had an extra layer to ward off any frost. 3. When you find slugs in your garden, bury several ramekins in the bed and then fill them up about halfway with beer. The slugs are attracted to the beer, drink it and then die. I hope that these tips help your gardens to thrive and bring you joy. Blessings to all.

Crispy bread crust without Dutch oven. Do everything the same, except put ready to bake dough that is on parchment, on top of preheated cookie sheet in your hot oven. In a shallow pan, put a few cups of water on rack under bread. Bake for usual time. Crispy and yummy, without messing with Dutch oven:)

Hi Becky. I have so enjoyed your garden this year. It's amazing! Have you thought about doing a bed of asparagus? Happy Autumn to you and your family! 😊🍁

I grew zinnias for the first time this year. Im zone 3. And they are still looking pretty good. The bees are still collecting whatever pollen is available. I’m actually surprised since we had a couple light frosts. Also we started them in a cold garden shed, in front of a window. No heat mats or grow lights. I’d say they’re pretty tough. I too will have Zinnas every year in my garden.

My husband has a golf bag carrier that is battery powered, it connects to his watch and it just follows him around, like a robot servant. Gorgeous yard … would you start at your driveway and just do a walkabout, like a yard tour 👍🥰. It’s too gorgeous not to share. You’re so blessed to have your parents and they’re able to help you like they do ❤️. I’d give anything to still have my parents. I lost my Dad when I was only 26 and then my mom at 45. 😪. My sons always helped in my gardens,, I’ve one large potatoe garden, a large veggie garden , a medium vine garden just for cucumbers and such, a raised stone bed for my herbs, a smaller garden for turnips and my green house. Mostly early starts but I have two rows on each side and plant them Then there’s flower beds here there and over yonder 😄. The one on the side hill is lupine, musk mallow- and black eyed Susan’s. They just came on their own so I just edged it and put a tree wood rail fence in the back and down the sides. My rant…. started off to tell you Mom would dig up her daliah bulbs, keep them in a cool area in brown paper bags. Come spring they already had the shoots starting. They died in the ground here. You’re setting out some seedlings in the sun and I’m looking at still crispy patches of snow on my gardens. South east New Brunswick- not far from the PEI confederation bridge and THAT water has ice up into early June 😅.
