Fitness comes in many different forms. Whether you're drawn to the power of weight lifting, the freedom of running, the intensity of boxing, or the serenity of swimming, there's a sport out there with your name on it.
If you've ever doubted your ability to find joy in physical exercise, it's time to think again! The key to embracing the challenge lies in discovering YOUR sport-the one that ignites your passion and brings out your best self.
For me, long-distance running has my heart, but I also find immense satisfaction in strength training. Why? Because I know it helps me perform at my peak when I hit the pavement.
However, it's essential to remember that fitness isn't just about the activity itself. Rest and refueling play a crucial role in supporting your performance. And, that’s why I’m sharing my homemade protein muffins packed with whole grains, chocolate, and (shock) protein:
*HOMEMADE MUFFIN RECIPE:*
- 1.5 cups sprouted oats
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup protein powder (chocolate or vanilla)
- 2 tbsp cacao powder
- Sprinkle of salt
- 2 eggs + 2 egg whites
- Dark chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup water or nut milk of choice
*DIRECTIONS:*
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. In a blender, combine oats, baking powder, baking soda, protein powder, cacao powder, salt, eggs/egg whites, and water/milk. Blend until smooth.
3. Line a muffin pan with liners and fill each about 3/4 full. Tap the pan on the counter to remove any air bubbles.
4. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top of the batter.
5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6. Let cool and enjoy!
Thank you for joining me on this week's marathon training journey! I hope this recipe and our adventures inspire you to push your physical and mental strength to new heights. Until next week! 🏃‍♂️💪

How do you make sure you’re eating enough to refuel after exercise and keep your body strong and energized, I struggle with this

Hey there!! That’s a great question, and I’m glad you asked! I too struggled for a long time to refuel before, during, and after exercising. I’m not going to lie, it has not been an easy road. A lot of patience, exploring what works/what doesn’t, and research went into mastering the art of proper nutrition. One of my biggest tips would probably be making sure ALL meals and snacks are balanced. If you’re eating an apple, make sure to pair it with peanut butter, yogurt, or some sort of protein. If you’re eating steak, pair it with some potatoes or some sort of carb. The goal is to hit as many of the food groups as possible for every meal so that it both satiates you as well as replenishes your energy levels to allow for proper recovery. I tend to veer away from as many processed foods as possible and stick to a very wholesome diet regiment as well. I’m not saying that it’s not okay to eat a cookie here and there because cookies and carbs are a runner’s BFF. But, the wholesome foods are what are going to sustain you in the long run and ensure you’re getting all of your necessary vitamins/minerals in. Now, I give you all of this advice based off of my experience and plan. I’m no doctor by any means! Everybody is different. Make sure to listen to your body- fuel more than you think you need. And, find what works for YOU. With patience and grace, you’ll eventually find that refueling is second nature. I wish you the best of luck!! Keep working hard and don’t give up! You got this! Never be afraid to reach out if you have any other questions. ❤

I haven’t watched the whole video yet but what are your running shoes recommendation(s)? I’m going to start training for MMA Blackbelt and we’re going to have to run to train. I’m not a runner at all so S.O.S 😂

Hey there!! I’m a huge Brooks fan. The pair I’m currently wearing (this is my second pair I’ve had of this style) is the Brooks Glycerin 20. They have a nice bounce that makes you feel like you could fly. However, because I run so much, I actually have a pair of swap out shoes that I use for shorter distances/sprinting. And, they’re Saucony Triumph 22’s. They’re nice and padded to help prevent knee and hip injuries when pushing hard. I would personally recommend the Brooks if you’re just starting out. And, if you find that you enjoy running more than you thought (like I did), then I would buy some Saucony’s. Note: these are the two types of shoes that work for me personally. I would strongly recommend going to a running shoe store to get your arches looked at and get gate tested (basically is a heat map of where you put the most pressure on your feet). The shoes make ALL the difference. And, if you’re not wearing the right ones, it makes it a lot easier to get injured. Good luck training for your MMA Blackbelt!! Keep me posted on what shoes you end up going for. 😊

@@Abigailpaigedesigns thank you for such a thorough reply. I didn’t even think about the arch of my feet or any of that. I’ll definitely do my research! 🤩🙏🏼

No problem! 💕 Trust me! The arches of my feet were not top of mind for me either in the beginning. But, I learned my lesson the hard way. And, I don’t want others to have to experience the same. 🙏🏻
