From time to time, this delightful song comes up in my feed... Did this show, playing Pseudolus many years ago, and this song was always the most fun of the evening.

One of my favorite songs from the musical. I do think this cast was quite wonderful. Ernie Sabella and Nathan Lane are quite amazing in whatever roles they choose on stage. :)

The part in which nathan lane is whipped and says "Ow!!!!" sounds pretty hillarious.

Love this song and cast. Also the #1 reason I will never hire a maid.

I know this reply is years late, but since it's a union performance, probably not. I did the lead in this show at a dinner theater many years (many many years) ago, and actually had it video taped, but the cameraman managed to screw the tape up. Then, a year later, did a smaller role in another dinner theater and asked if I could bring my camera man guy in again, and was told flatly that it was against the union rules, against the contract, and would cause major problems if it were taped (audio or video). that's one reason this tape is so blurry. The movie of this show was done in Britain and they destroyed it. Not that it wasn't funny at all, but it didn't have the fun of this type of performance.

Why is the guy playing Senex using a voice like a pirate on helium???

Stadlen seems to chew the scenery. in a broad comedy, underplaying is generally more effective. Oh, well.

To be fair - this video doesn't actually show the reception they got at the end of the number seeing as it cuts out as the song finishes...

The old guy sounds weird IMO

My parents took me, as a Junior HSer to an early perormance of the show with the original cast. I may not have known much about the theater (and still don't) but this cast can't compare in this, or other numbers, with Zero Mostel, Jack Gilford, David Burns and John Carradine. The ovation went on for mínutes unlike the tepid reception this group garnered. It doesn't seem like much of a showstopper here, while it sure did back then.

That sounds more like Ross Lehman than Mark Linn-Baker. Do you know the date of this performance?
