A Garbage Day in San Diego (ESD)

Since I was as little as I could remember, I loved garbage trucks. When I was at an age of 3 or 4 I used to live in San Diego, and I would remember watching as ESD crews would zoom up and down my street picking up the manual trash at the time. I also remember the roll out in my old neighborhood in 1998. When I was little I remember seeing all the heil rapids, curbtenders and wittke front loaders they used to own. But as the years went by I started seeing them less and less, due to two factors 1) I no longer lived in San Diego 2) They started selling them away. The only times I would get the opportunity to see ESD working was if I spent the day at my grandmas house.
Today, I still love ESD. Even though their fleet isn't much of a variety anymore which is basically made up of Amreps and Pakmors.
I had an idea a couple months ago where I would put a bunch of single clips together of a bunch of different ESD trucks and make one video. I thought I was a pretty good idea. So over the past months I've been acquiring little footage here and there, basically during my breaks between school and work. Searching through Downtown, Encanto, Paradise Hills, Otay Mesa, Nestor and San Ysidro. When I finally put it all together on the story board it turned out OK. I was hoping it would be better but overall honestly it turned out ok.
Enjoy this video, this video is made up of small teasers of what is to come before my last video #97. Some more Autocars, a couple of Peterbilts and of course GREENS. Which I am now more than happy that I have finally acquired some footage.

Thank You, and yeah at 8:39 that was unexpected. The new Amrep grippers don't really have a firm grip on some carts so sometimes... If if you look closely they slide down a little bit in the hopper, and it this case because Zarns have a weird base it fell in.

Excellent footage! Enjoyed all the trucks in the video especially the Amreps. They go great with Peterbilts. It's a shame to see your videos coming to an end. Really going to miss your uploads. Great job!

Thanks, I agree that the pete's go good with the amreps. The ACX's are ok but peterbilt is better IMO gives it more of a variety since Republic is buying ACX as well as a couple of WM in San Diego. So having CCC is like really awesome ans peterbilt as well. I've always wondered though, if they buy CCC for their rear loaders, why don't they just buy CCC for their Amreps? But then again it all comes down to money issues. they did it at one time with their COE CCC rapid rails but that was a good 15 years ago. Nice!! I see that many/all the Amreps had new grippers installed on them. Nice shot at 2:43. And of course, the shot at 3:31 was great, so was the truck!! Awesome to see the ACX at 5:29. First one I've seen on recycles. CCC RL at 7:26 was really cool to see with the pusher axle and on a trash route. ESD toter...niccee. Zarn was awesome to still see around! Oh nevermind lol Truck at 10:50 was really fast. Great video!

Yeah I was actually surprised that they're putting on new amrep grippers even on the older trucks. So far I've seen about 5 older trucks with the new amrep grippers on them. Also the ACX on recycle was actually really cool and I agree with you, that was the first time I've seen one doing the recycling. I always thought that the ACX's only did trash... well I made that a conclusion because out of all the ACX's ive seen so far they've all been on trash, so seeing something different for a chance was nice. The driver was really nice, I might go back someday to make a longer video. And omg there was a land full of ESD Toters, I thought I hit the jack pot... unfortunately the driver was a little iffy on the pictures so unfortunately it's a loss more than a win. :( And the Zarn it will be missed... spoiler alert, driver decided to hopper it, she thought the cart was already old enough and wasn't worth retrieving. The truck at 10:50 omg was the fasted ESD truck I've seen yet. He was actually going faster before I started filming, he was going like LA status it was crazy. He has a pretty big route as well I just need to catch him at an earlier time if I want more footage which I will acquire because that guy was just revving it and pushing the truck. No more Autocar for city of SD, they are junk! The next ones are Petes with CNG. Peterbuild hold up a lot more, they are build for trash trucks.about the new arms, yes it all uniform arms for us.that way we have only one part.
