A very interesting view inside Purdey. Back in 1978(ish) I was grouse beating on a Scottish estate and Prince Charles joined the shoot. Late in the day while holding the line through some gorse I fell over a low wall and landed upside down at the Prince’s feet. While I got myself upright, the Prince asked how I was and I got a great view of one of his Purdey guns, the other being held by his loader, an absolutely stunning piece of craftsmanship. I think they were made for George VI.

Love that side look "Did I just scratch the table?" Purdey, are also known for their beautiful clothing. I've styled an amazing deer skin jacket and tweed waistcoat for women. The waist coat has padding for the shooting shoulder and can move for those who are lefties. An amazing brand with some exquisite craftsmanship.

I visited Purdey in London when I was in the market for a fine hand made English shotgun. The associates completely ignored me while they fussed around a member of the British aristocracy. The British class system was in clear view,I waited for forty minutes and then decided an American had no place here. Long story short I am now the proud owner of a Holland&Holland .

I had a first hand conversation with an ex H&H gunsmith, who had semi retired down to the village we live in. Many years ago a double barrel rifle was discovered "in the white" in a overlooked cabinet on site. Upon further investigation, the American client who had placed the original order (so 5 years previously) was identified and contacted to arrange a second fitting and finalise engraving details etc. Apparently the first reaction from the client was "Wow I didn't think it would be ready this quickly!!" Seeing first had the gunsmith attention to detail with some minor adjustments he made to one of my guns, I can assure you you have the finest piece of English gunsmith craftsmanship, that looked after will serve many generations.

I fitted a kitchen 15 years ago for a woman who was Purdeys book keeper..rather a large lady. When I dismantled her kitchen tins of beans were so old they had all dried up and the cans were reduced to rust and dust. Tom thanks for digging deeper in classic british brands, most of them I already follow over insta. One suggestion though, brands like purdey and the lock co are known for their craftsmanship but your camera team often fails to show those details via close up shots . It's their texture, thread count, fit and finish for what these brands are known for. Try giving us more in-depth knowledge by wearing these clothes and more detailed shots of these products.

Sir. I eagerly anticipated a detailed visual exploration of the craftsmanship of the guns during the first 8 minutes and beyond, but unfortunately, the camera primarily focused on the presenter. While I appreciate the historical significance of trademarks, I doubt that competitors would invest the effort to study the intricate shooting mechanism and engravings. Consequently, I feel disappointed in not gaining a deeper understanding of Purdey's. On a positive note, I thoroughly enjoyed the suit and hunting protocol class.

You left out the most important reason for having a bespoke firearm built, and it's the fit to the shooter. The stock is fitted to the shooter much like a fine suit if fitted to the wearer. Every person has a different length of pull, grip size, and facial features, such as chin width, cheek, and neck dimension, etc. You are fitted when you place an order, where you are measured, so your eye is over the center of the rib for sighting, and the stock fits your stance and shoulder. For instance, the two guns you showed at the start were for a right-hand shooter, and they looked to have a wide jaw, which means the cast is different for them, and most likely, the drop as well.

It's fair to say King George V was obsessed with shooting, I think. You should check out some of his gamecards from books like 'Ollie' about the Marquess of Ripon. For Victorian Royals and Aristocrats, shooting was there lives - betting huge fortunes on live pigeon shooting and funding grousemoors, etc to bag thousands of birds in a day.
