Maria/Airam were the same single person the whole time. She just hallucinated the other person in the mirror. They didn't "merge", the split personality just became a single personality as Airam became fully dominant.

Well, it’s more of having this feeling of making fun of someone and being mean, knowing that they feel bad and you’re the reason kinda gives you superiority. Some people wanna make others laugh and it’s at another person’s expense.Terrible thing but it’s pretty human and nearly everyone has some sort of urge to do it. Most attractive people? More like people no one really likes or they really like but they can only express it by acting mean because to be polite and be direct would be embarrassing for the person. I’m not advocating for bullies or anything like that, but know that a lot of people don’t know how to express themselves truly including extroverts and will opt to lie and act differently in order to achieve what they want.

No wonder Lily was jealous of her, Maria was literally the most beautiful girl in the school but clumsy and shy. I really think a nice long talk between the two of them would have ended the problem before it went crazy but Lily felt comfortable that her boyfriend wasn't paying that much attention to her and the school literally bullied her just for being shy. Lily was super toxic, refusing to acknowledge her friend when they went to the school together or when she was in trouble by bullies.

maria basically developed a split personality disorder from her pent up anger and abuse. her finding the picture of the ultrasound was a catalyst in creating her alter ego airam and eventually airam took over control and “fixed” maria’s life. that’s why i’m the end of the movie when airam is looking for maria in the mirror and couldn’t find her, it’s because the 2 of them became whole again because airam did what maria wanted but couldn’t do.

If the mirror world was real, then we would have seen Maria living an alternative life there as Airam. One where she isn’t bullied because she isn’t an easy target, and maybe one where the boy she likes isn’t happy to date the girl who bullies her. But there wasn’t a second world there for her, so the story is more about a hallucinated alter ego, a split self, and a chance to reimagine who she could be if she wasn’t alone. Her parents both fail to care for her, her father is an abusive hypercritical bully, and her mother fails to protect her from him. So when she then tries to protect herself she uses violence and threats, she also uses a level of violence and intimidation that is one of absolute murderous rage, because she’s been simmering with these feelings of anger her whole life, so they seem like disproportionate responses to the moment but they’re really about years of abuse. This is what happens in the real world too, when people who have been abused begin to enact violence on others. They often have poor impulse control too, because they have never had that role model of someone protecting them properly, so when they start to be more forceful and assertive in trying to protect themselves, they can lean into it too much and become dangerous and scary. Sociopathy develops in circumstances like this. I feel like this film is about how a child can become one when they try to stand up for themselves, finding out that she was a twin is Maria’s inciting incident because she realises there could be another version of herself and that they could have protected each other so she wouldn’t be so alone.

No parent has the right to euthanize a child without the consent of the other parent. Whether the mother or the father disagrees to let go of the child, abortion or euthanization must be discussed thoroughly by the couple/ spouses. I can't believe that a perfectionist father like Dan, who is flawed himself, would kill his child simply because she was born deformed. If he had euthanized Aram WITH Amy's consent and with moral intentions in mind (like he didn't want his child to live a life filled with ridicule or humiliation due to her deformities), then maybe the euthanization would be understandable (BUT not justifiable). But he had killed his child without thinking of Amy's feelings and his hypocrisy, - like they say "Every child deserves parents but not every parent deserves a child."

@@yawgmoth6568 WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY I SAID that moral intentions make the action UNDERSTANDABLE but not JUSTIFIABLE. Please hear me out here for a moment. If a couple knows their child was born EXTREMELY SICK and will have difficulties in the future, maybe that calls for euthanasia. If a woman knows she is not fit to have a baby and is unsure of where to leave them (like if the child will be safe with another family), then an abortion is UNDERSTANDABLE (not justifiable). If one is attacked by a serial killer and they kill them out of self-defense, the murder is UNDERSTANDABLE (Personally, I believe that murder out of self-defense isnt necessarily justifiable BUT it most certainly does not account for imprisonment.. maybe therapy thooo). EITHER WAY... Sometimes wrong actions make for right solutions IF made with the right intentions (I'm sure someone will question what exactly are the "right intentions".. welp, the right intentions are made by our human nature and Natural Law. Kids, teenagers and even grownups bully for 2 major reasones: because of their own insecurities and/or because that is what they experience at home. Even the most attractive and beautifull girls and boys get bullied: it has nothing to do with looks. (Also we see beauty differently in our childhood and teenage years then when we growup) The only important thing you all have to remember: You have NO power over others and NOBODY has power over YOU - YOU are the Central Character and Leading Figure of your own life and everybody else is en extra or at most the supporting actor! saw this movie before! really liked it, the acting was amazing. at first I thought it was a paranormal movie however as it went on I realized it was just psychological. it tackled some of the factors that result in the decrease of one's mental health (or triggers one's illness). I also liked how the writer portrayed split personally in this movie. overall it was fun, and honestly the actress was really hot lol

Fun mental health fact: Many people seem to be labeling this as dissociative identity disorder, but it's actually more likely something called the syndrome of subjective doubles. DID is accompanied by memory gaps when other identities are dominant, but Maria is explicitly aware of what airaM was doing. There's a surprisingly legitimate looking paper I found by googling "look away movie representation of psychology" that actually delved into analyzing the movie from this lens. Looking more at the paper, it may not be as prestigious a paper as I initially thought, but it's still more than I expected for analyzing a random movie.

Watching these movie recaps are really helping me learn lessons in a lot shorter timespan. This movie is a step by step guide on how to change. Of course, the change is tragic, but her level of freewill increases regardless. For those of you who don’t see what it is that created the change, it’s simply a prolonged experience to decisive actions in favour of the ideal self’s values. If you want to change, you have to shed your skin, and do grand acts to become a completely different person. If you’re smart enough, rebellion at a teenage drama level is too low to consider as genuine self respect. Rebellion works, but it should be done with purpose for the pursuit of freedom from whatever hell you’re in, not to “exact revenge”. Clearly, it doesn’t work out. Even if you get away with murder, and even if you become a changed person, could you truly say that it’s ideal? No, you can’t. It may be better, a lesser evil if you will compared to your previous life, but it’s still bad. Strive for something greater, happiness, love, bliss, ecstasy. Whatever the hell kind of possibility that makes you excited, that right there is the formula to finding your purpose. I say this from experience, not because I suddenly got this idea from this movie recap, (though, that “prolonged, grand act for change” really is a good think to keep in mind, so long as you control it well - we don’t want more school shooters.)

I watched the movie right after this video. It was heart wreching. I went undiagnosed with autism until I was in high school. I was unable to make friends as a kid hence I lacked the skills to know how. I've long since gotten help with that. But it's taught me something. Even at that young of age bullying exists. Any kid who doesn't behave "normally" will be outcasted. It's what you make of your bullys words and actions. Not what they really mean. Because they're just lies told by someone who has issues of their own who can't handle them. No matter the words or lies they accused you of or actions, or rumors they make or whatever else they do. You will never be what they say. And you'll always be one step ahead of them. Who cares what they say or think about you. What do you think? You're 10000 times better than their words. And you matter. You may be meaningless to somebody but to another you are important. And they care.

You're a strong woman, I wish I could be like you. I was bullied too for so many years and then I get out of that hell hole, but even though its gone its still here, repeating everything that it corrupted my future, it affected my mental health, although I have improved and pulled myself together, I just couldn't stand the fact that it might repeat the nightmare again.
@TheFiown2 жыл бұрын
@@ItsSherreeSn3ek You have to be strong in life, there is no choice. As well as being bullied at school my father was a psycho and a drunk and hated me but I didn't allow him to 'get' to me as I educated myself, studied psychology from the age of 14 onwards and didn't take on board what wasn't mine. At 17 I was sequestered and violated by two men and dumpted on a waste ground but I got over it and although it did affect me these men didn't 'get' to me either. Years later I met someone with the same profile as my father, we repeat what we know and for five years he did everything to break me, he didn't. My last boyfriend was a different type but in the end he almost ruined my life and I lost all my money and any future with adoption but I got out of that and moved on. Today I live alone and am really happy NOT to be in a relationship. I have gone through things that others would or could not as we are all built differently. I was always strong willed and determined and as they say there is a point in life when 'happiness is a choice' and you mustn"t wait for it to appear. God bless.

I was bullied at school too when I was little. I took a completely different turn though. I spent a few years learning karate and when they physically bullied me again, I beat em up, but since I was also a nerd, I had memorized the teacher's patterns and only beat them up when I knew the teacher wouldn't be looking. My "bullies" reported me a few times but there was no evidence that I actually did hit em so I got away with it.
