Carmen Caro Dugo was born in Seville, Spain. She holds a PhD in Humanities from Trinity College Dublin and is a translator of Lithuanian literature into Spanish. Since 2005, she is an associate professor at the Faculty of Philology, Vilnius University, where she teaches the Spanish language and translation from Lithuanian to Spanish.
Carmen Caro is a recipient of numerous awards for her translations, including the Poetry Spring festival prize (2014) and St. Jerome's Prize for Translators (2022). In 2016, Caro received the merit of the Order of the Isabella the Catholic of the Kingdom of Spain for her meaningful work and significant contribution to a deeper knowledge of Spanish and Lithuanian cultures as well as for her translation of Kristijonas Donelaitis's poem The Seasons (Metai) into Spanish. In 2020, she was also awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order for Merits to Lithuania for her active development of Lithuanian culture, science, and education and for spreading the name of Lithuania in the Kingdom of Spain. Caro is a member of the Lithuanian Association of Literary Translators as well as the Association of Spanish Translators (ACE-Traductores).
