The story of the lost wedding ring. - A glimmer of hope. We went freediving for lost treasure in the cenotes of the Riviera Maya Mexico. My name is Matt Adcock, co-founder of Del Sol Photography, today I have the pleasure to do a treasure hunt in the honor of the late father of Jon Atkinson. Jon sent me an email asking for help. We decided to help him find his lost wedding ring underwater by freediving in the cenote. This honeymoon horror story becomes a dramatic WIN rapidly thanks to a glimmer of hope paying it forward. Finding lost wedding rings is a hobby of mine apparently. For me this is a real feel good story. This lost wedding ring story is one of my most favorite of all time
"Nothing is impossible, nothing is entirely impossible...if you are patient with yourself, patient with those around you, and you take the time to breathe and understand what is going on, you can find glimmers of hope anywhere. - Lily Atkinson":
On Saturday, August 1, 2020, I received an email from Jon and Lily Atkinson,
"Hello,
I saw the video of the lost wedding ring being found in a cenote. I just lost my wedding ring today (July 30, 2020) in a cenote underwater and was wondering if there is any way you could find it for me.
I just got married on Sunday, July 26th, and we came to Tulum Mexico for our honeymoon. The ring was my Father's. He had it custom made 42 years ago. He passed away in 2010, just before I went off to college. I am the youngest of 5 children, but the first to get married, and having his wedding ring as my own meant a great deal to me.
If there is any way you are able to help, please let me know. It would mean the world.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Atkinson"
Jon had lost his ring on the honeymoon. We embarked on an adventure to find the lost wedding ring. Searching for treasure underwater, we were up for a huge challenge. The water from this freshwater spring underground is deep in places with very rocky bottom structure.
In many places, huge boulders the size of cars are stacked forming crevices that drop another few meters. The ring fell into one of these crevices. After some time searching, we found the ring. Some could even say this honeymoon horror story turned into a dream with a wonderful happy ending.
Cenotes are freshwater aquifers located in the Riviera Maya, Mexico in the state of Quintana Roo. We often freedive looking along the bottom for dropped items. There are thousands and thousands of them and the cenote owner told me that jewelry is often lost in their properties. We were very lucky treasure hunters to find the gold. Finding treasure has always been a dream of mine. This was the perfect opportunity to see the magic first hand.
