I agree 1,000% with the comment about how the Vikings lost their identity when they moved indoors from Metropolitan Stadium to the Metrodome in 1982. The Vikings playing indoors was, to me anyway, comparable to saying that Leif Ericsson and his pals sailed the North Atlantic in a 1,000-foot Norwegian cruise ship. If you're going to call yourselves the Vikings remain outdoors and brave the elements.

Bud Grant would not allow propane heated benches on the Vikings sideline. More so, he said any Vikings player, with the exception of Fran Tarkington, he saw put their hands down their pants would be kicked off the team.

No domed stadium means no Super Bowl played at that venue. That's the primary reason teams opt for domes.

@radiocameron Like Green Bay could EVER host a Super Bowl.

@@radiocameronThat is just crumbs the NFL tosses at cold weather cities as a prize for shaking down tax payers. They get one shot and then after that the Super Bowl continues its usual rotation of Miami, Tampa, Arizona, LA, Las Vegas and New Orleans.

Football should be played in weather,...it brings an "unknown element" into the game. We used to love playing in the snow!

I agree the Vikings lost something when they went indoors . They completed in four superbowls outside . They haven't sniffed a superbowl since . It's something there .

WASN'T THE STADIUM, IT WAS THE PLAYERS WHO WERE NO GOOD.

The Vikings came extremely close in 1998 when Gary Anderson missed the field goal against the Falcons that would've put them in Super Bowl 33 instead of Atlanta. Though not a Vikings fan, I was ticked that the Falcons went instead. I really believe that Super Bowl 33 would've been a better game if they had. When looking up the 1998 season I found out that the Vikings were just 1 field goal away from an undefeated regular season when the Buccaneers edged them 27-24. The Vikings offense was nasty, scoring 556 points. Damn, I wish they had gone to Super Bowl 33 instead of Atlanta.

Eventually the Packers are going to be the only team in the NFC North playing outdoors. The Bears will probably have a retractable roof by the end of the decade in Arlington Heights.

As a Vikings fan I believe that one of the largest factors as to why the Vikings never won a Superbowl was due to the fact they moved inside. Playing inside softened them up. One of the greatest contributing factors one of the most consistently talented and storied teams in the league has never won a bowl was because they moved inside. And with this new stadium, its not likely theyll be moving back out anytime soon... Bud Grant in the playoffs shortly after team inception, denied heaters on the Vikings sidelines. He permitted them for the visiting Browns though. And guess what? Browns got slaughtered. His philosophy was that it made the players too comfortable on the sidelines. I can see that.

You could argue the Vikings never MADE IT to a Super Bowl after they moved indoors, but it's not necessarily the reason they never WON one. Minnesota went to FOUR Super Bowls before they moved inside, losing all four. After losing No. 4 to the Raiders in January of 1977 they played five more seasons outdoors, yet never made it back to the big game before moving into the Metrodome in 1982.

As a fan, play the game outdoors, but give me a damn warm seat to watch it.

Technically they're playing under a roof, not a dome.

Nostalgia and all that, I would prefer climate climate-controlled environment vs. 10 below temps on steel bench seats with no backing. More ridiculous, the land cannot be used for anything else six months a year.

Agreed. 10 degrees sitting on a metal bleacher seat is like sitting on a block of ice

If you poled Packers fans about a dome in Green Bay, I think you’d see marked differences by age group. The older fans, age 60 and up (call them the Ice Bowl Era fans), don’t like the idea of the Packers playing in a comfortable dome. Pole the fans under 40, after showing them the beautiful stadium that the Vikings have, and I believe the majority would want one just like it. A dome makes the facility viable for so many more things beyond four months of football.

As a native Wisconsinite and Packer fan who works in downtown Minneapolis, what in the ever loving hell is wrong you? There is not one Packer fan alive that looks at that pointy piece of ugliness and thinks "Yeah, I wish we had that in Green Bay." Damn thing is an eyesore! Football stadiums are for football, and the only time being in that dome is pleasant is when there is an expo or corporate event.
@seanhoward80255 ай бұрын
That’s what a basketball arena is for. Screw the domed stadiums. So why does LA need a domed stadium? Anyone under 40 is a pussy. This is from a kid who went to the Browns/Vikings game at the old Met Stadium…when Vikings fans used to go shirtless and paint their chests in 50+ below zero windchills. Grow a pair, Millennials.

Lambeau is THE stadium for NFL football. If you want to call yourself a "warrior" and you play in a dome, pack your purse and go home.
