@@Kaydeecee199 my dad lived 100 yards from the graveyard he now rests in, from his grave I can see his old front door. One night we went to look at the view from the graveyard and I was able to show him a lunar eclipse of the full moon which despite many years spent haymaking, he had never seen. @@AstrogeoJay So what? When it entered earth's atmosphere it was no longer a comet but a bolide as you state.
@AstrogeoJay
@AstrogeoJay 3 ай бұрын
@@rickkwitkoski1976 Simple, it was never a comet, there is a BIG difference between a piece of rocky debris burning up in the atmosphere compared to a comet. I'm not sure why some reports say it might be of cometary origin, lets say it was, its a little bit of a comet, not A comet. its a meteor, a fireball, a bolide, a shooting star whatever you want to call it. (a bolide is what a fireball which is an exceptionally bright meteor is called, if it is seen to explode) parts of this most likely survived to fall on earth in which case they are meteorites but unfortunately they would have splashed into the Atlantic so we cant really know for sure if it was of cometary origin. Hope that clears things up?

I'm still hoping that I will get to observe a better comet than the one I saw back in the 1960's when I was in grade school. I was dragged out of bed really early and I was so disappointed. Thinking back on it it was awesome. It was clearly visible on the horizon with no binocs, and was wider than my thumb(now) held at arm's length. I still don't know for sure which one it was. Neowise was bigger but much fainter and Halley was tiny.
