That's the way for me ,too. There will probably never be anything else that compares to Hale -Bopp for me. It was a comet in a lifetime personally for me. Other ☄️ will have to be really great to still come close because Hale-Bopp was tied to other stuff and other times in my life that are gone now,and they won't ever be able to come back.

One night we went to look at the view from the graveyard and I was able to show him a lunar eclipse of the full moon which despite many years spent haymaking, he had never seen. He was amazed to see the blood orange colour, and I was pleased to explain the event to him!! Aah memories eh!!. Cheers.

Anybody dissing HaleBopp in comments doesn’t know anything. That was an awesome comet. I burned it into my brain by starting at it for hours at a time. I truly never thought I would see something so beautiful in my lifetime. I hope this one lives up to predictions!

The comet Hale-Bopp was the most awesome comet I ever saw, low over the Northern horizon, with a long tail, easily visible through my 10 x 50 binoculars. Looking forward to seeing this new comet in the Autumn!

Use stellarium (pc version is better) and use your location (it should automatically be there already) then switch the date to later october, for me in romania (45 degrees north) it is right after sunset, and the good part is that around that time there wont be any bright moon

@@rickkwitkoski1976 Simple, it was never a comet, there is a BIG difference between a piece of rocky debris burning up in the atmosphere compared to a comet. I'm not sure why some reports say it might be of cometary origin, lets say it was, its a little bit of a comet, not A comet. its a meteor, a fireball, a bolide, a shooting star whatever you want to call it. (a bolide is what a fireball which is an exceptionally bright meteor is called, if it is seen to explode) parts of this most likely survived to fall on earth in which case they are meteorites but unfortunately they would have splashed into the Atlantic so we cant really know for sure if it was of cometary origin. Hope that clears things up?

Here in the country north of Portland OR it was really spectacular. Get yourself to a nice dark area for the next ones. We have at least a year more of possibilities for good auroras.

I'm still hoping that I will get to observe a better comet than the one I saw back in the 1960's when I was in grade school. I was dragged out of bed really early and I was so disappointed. Thinking back on it it was awesome. It was clearly visible on the horizon with no binocs, and was wider than my thumb(now) held at arm's length. I still don't know for sure which one it was. Neowise was bigger but much fainter and Halley was tiny.

I grew up in the Caribbean and my stepdad dragged me out of bed to go see Kohoutek in the '60s. It was supposed to be super bright but never lived up to the hype. Still, we could see it pretty easily and it was the first one I ever saw!

@@chrislong3938 Was it perhaps a different comet? Kohoutek went thru in the mid 1970's. I was in college and didn't see it. My goodness the HYPE surrounding that one!!! I remember a front page of the local paper with a huge splashy artist's rendering of what it might look like. Everyone has really backed off on making comet visibility predictions since then.

I remember being really proud of myself for predicting how it would look in the sky... with a vertical tail relative to the horizon. We lived in Trinidad at the time. I even remember being on a pullout on Lady Young Road overlooking Port of Spain! That is neither here nor there, but I remember a lot of details except the year!!! ;-) It was very small and binocs were needed. Hale Bopp was so huge by comparison!!!
