Newcastle United legend Shay Given was back at our Benton training ground to take part in a training session with United's 'keepers before sitting down for a chat with Nick Pope.

@@ricknick5332 he really didn’t go for the money at all 😂 countless players and coaches said he was forced out by Ashley to cash in on some players since we looked certain to go down. It’s in Houghton’s autobiography as well as Carrol being forced out too

​@@ricknick5332 He was at a club that was being run in to the ground by Mike Ashley, was almost guaranteed to be relegated by that point in the season, and he was given a chance to be the number one keeper at a club who suddenly had the money to push for Champions League football almost straight away. No matter how much a player loves a club there is always going to be a chance of an offer that is too good to refuse. He was at Newcastle for a decade, you can hardly blame him for taking the opportunity to try and play at the highest possible level when he was in his prime.
