A GOOD DAY TO GARDEN |SPRING GARDENING | 1 ACRE FOOD FOREST
Today was a good day to garden, it was a nice 75 degree day with no clouds in sight. This is the best part of the gardening journey by adding more fruit trees to the food forest and thinking about hiw the fruit will taste. Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing.

I bought that same trellis for my tomatoes but hated them for that usage. Took them apart and used them for my cucumbers. worked great. Those herbs look really healthy. I transplanted two bunches of green onions my sister got for me at the store and I planted a bag of the little red potatoes. When the onions bloom they make a bunch of free seeds plus I can eat part of the green tops. I`m gonna save seed potatoes from the ones I planted if they do ok. I planted some store garlic last November. It doesn`t look good but it`s alive. My soil is bad so I`ve been hauling in forest dirt in a garden wagon. One of these days I`ll have enough topsoil here. My test plants in the forest soil are doing pretty good but it will take time for healthy soil to develop. I add all my grass clippings and some chopped leaves and rotted stumps and logs to my garden and and around fruit trees and I`m slowly building rich soil. I have spinal issues from a car accident so I`m slow unless I got fresh meds or some alcohol. Be careful on these roads man. Lots of people out there can`t drive!

Man I hope we don`t get a freeze. I just put about a dozen fruit trees in the ground in central Louisiana. I tried planting a store bag of sweet peas. Not enough sun here because of pines until April. I planted my first 4 (I accidentally broke one and it didn`t survive) Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry trees this year and some Pineapple Guava and 5 more fig trees. My fig tree from last year is putting out leaves fast so I fertilized it and the blooming wild blackberries. I just got a 2 gallon wine making kit. WOOO HOOOO! I hope I can get enough fruit planted that the wildlife can`t get it all but there was enough blackberries last year.

Hey cuz, I have those same red trellis/cages I got from Lowe's. I've been using them on my snap peas for years now. They're just a little too wide to fit the way I want them to in my 17gal buckets, but they do well for me in rectangular totes. Those herbs look good! I thought my thyme and oregano (greek and italian) were going to overwinter for once, but now I'm not sure so I need to sow more seeds. I got the everbearing mulberry from Logee's in 2021 and it survived the winter in 2022, but died in 2023. I am a little bitter because at the time of purchase they claimed it was hardy to my zone, but on their website now they say it's hardy to zone 7 not 6. Even years later I'm tempted to complain to them about the misinformation they corrected.

Determinate and indeterminate works just like the tomatoes. Plant an indeterminate potato and you can keep adding soil and the potatoes will grow on the stem as tall as the potato vine grows. Determinate will give you a certain amount and grows at the roots.
