Oh my gosh, could you IMAGINE being the person who hand knit that sweater, and seeing THIS?! Oh how my heart would be filled to the brim, dare I say over flowing with how happy I would be to see such a wonderful knitter pick up something I made, fix, and love it. That is incredible. Love the journey this sweater must have been on so far. Awesome, if it ever makes it to another pair of hands, I hope those hands as well know that it is no ordinary sweater

Loved your video. Lots of inspiration with hat creating. I absolutely love that Latvian BraId. It REALLY makes the hat! I grew up reading Steven King. You must read The Stand. I've read it 5 times now. What sweater are you wearing. The sweater in for surgery is gorgeous! Those are totally your colors too. There is a cardigan pattern that goes with the Styria sweater patter- if that's the match. Congrats to your son on the camper. Wow, that is pretty cool!!! Happy knitting.

Oh my gosh I missed the live but the story of the "broken sweater" is just amazing. I find it so serendipitous that you of all people picked that sweater up. I mean what are the odds that a master knitter who the sweater actually fits would pick it up and have the skill to fix it! I'm so excited to see it mended and glad it's continuing to be loved. You're right - someone made that will great love and skill.

I did a similar fix on a sweater that had been attacked by moths as it languished in my knitting basket for too long. Luckily the holes were all within a two inch horizontal band on the body. It was a gansy and a lot of work had been put into it at a fairly small gauge so I was looking for how to fix it. I did exactly what you did. I cut the knitting and unraveled the 2” of damage, put the bottom severed portion back on the needles and knitted up for 2” to meet the other half of the sweater then did one of the longest grafting operations I’ve ever done. It was amazing and I felt so accomplished afterwards. (But now I know to be more vigilant about what goes on undetected in my knitting basket!)

I actually really like your beige hat! I love the stitch pattern and I like how it cinches in on the top. It reminds me of the crochet "Waves of Hope Hat" by Sweet Potato that I made last year. I personally enjoy when things don't always have a gradual decrease on the crown because it feels repetitive at this point, it feels like every hat pattern has it.

OK, with regards to sweater surgery. I found a shrunken lovely grey wool pullover sweater at thrift store. It somewhat fits and makes a great rain layer( on the rare occasion it rains over here in Bishop) I have thought I wanted to cut it open to make a zip up. Either full or quarter zip. My understanding is because it is shrunk/felted it would not unravel along cut. And I could sew a fabric binding to the edge to accommodate the zip. Any help or ideas with this would be wonderful. Love checking in on your videos.

@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS I am not an expert. A. Sapkowski is a classic here in fantasy, in SF it would be S. Mrożek. My friend wrote for CD project a novel which is a story of Geralt but in the game and is different from the Sapkowski novel. I did not read this one, but I know him and if he used all his powers I can recommend the book :) Fantasy is very popular here but I am not a huge fan so I will recommend if I happen to bump into smth interesting :) I like political fiction, classics and nowadays I am crazy about crime stories novels :)

Happy new year, Tayler! The camper is really impressive. I can't remember if I already told that in previous video, sorry if I'm repeating myself, but I highly recommend Peggy Orenstein's book ''Unraveling: What I Learned About Life While Shearing Sheep, Dyeing Wool, and Making the World's Ugliest Sweater'', she brilliant articulate thinks I'm posting about from ages. I know the comments in your upcoming video will boil my blood, because knitters have that arrogantly behavior over us farmers like they know better what is good for our animals, although we are stepping on generations upon traditions and experience, and few bad example they see on TikTok is not the full picture. But I'm looking forward to see your observation, especially after you started the Born Shorn Dyed collection. Two notes about the current video: I don't like the four portion increases for a stupid personal preferences, so I'm curious to see the result with more. Usually I would do it only in three places but it may become way too pointy. I often unravel thrift store sweaters with some stain or hole to repurpose the yarn and they are most often made from two strands in opposite direction, so if you cut it in half will not get the same experience as if cut the hand knit sweater. There are of course some exceptions, but they are difficult to determine before starting unravel. At least for me.

Great as usual. Can you tell us what is the name of the pattern of the sweater you’re wearing? Is that a Felix pullover without the holes? Just curious. Trying to decide if I want to make that or a bulky knit novice cardigan by Petite knits! I already bought the yarn Aran worsted tweed. So I need a pattern to use it! Any ideas? Thanks.

I don’t think it matters if you have 4 sections or 8 sections it’s probably that you need more increases at the start and then less as you shift to a tube shape so the start of the hat is almost a flat circle, then tapers, then no increases?

I love Stephen King's books. I have been reading his work since I was about 10 yrs old. I know heavy reading for a 10 yr, but I was that kid. Stephen King disliked Stanley Kubrick's version of his book as it was so different from the book. There was a mini series version that aired on tv some years ago that was more like the book, it has Rebecca De Mornay. It was pretty good.

I love that you were that kid. Very cool. And I definitely need to watch the miniseries. I’ve heard that about King and his thoughts on the film. It makes a lot of sense. The book is just so much MORE.

I realize that top down socks sounds like top down for a hat, but to my mind, top down socks start with a rib, like a brim on a hat, and starting with a toe is more like the shaping of the top down hat. So, don't knock it till you try it... you might *really* like toe up for the same reasons you like top down hats.

Yes. I totally know what you mean. And I don’t dislike knitting from the toe up, (I’ve done it a few times). It’s just not my favorite.

Ooo cool! No, it’s actually just a favorite and more a nod to my Scottish heritage (my family is a blend of Scottish, Mexican, and Irish). But I’ve been wanting to get more into WoW.

“The Shiining” is my favorite Stephen King book. I’ve read a few more of them, but had to stop reading them after I read “Misery” because that one bothered me so much - too realistic for me.

There's a made for TV The Shining movie with Stephen Weber that is closer to the story from the book. I've read a lot of King's books and 1 or 2 of Tabitha's. He tends to get too descriptive of unimportant things...imo.

Missus Earl, I believe you're increasing too rapidly. Have you ever done a crown down crochet hat before? Puckering comes from increasing too often, so try doing some rounds you don't increase on in-between the rounds you do increase on. It'll give you a more gentle slope. If you want it to look less geometric, when it's lying down flat, shift your increases, every other increase round, to the halfway point between your markers. Then shift back.
