Buck Mountain is the highest peak in Grand Teton National Park south of Garnet Canyon and sits majestic topping out at 11,943 feet. Timberline Lake is a remote and gorgeous alpine lake that sits in a beautiful cirque below Buck Mountain and Static Peak just north of Death Canyon. Timberline Lake is a worthy objective in-itself and should not be overlooked as a great day hike in Grand Teton National Park. Route finding is a must in order to hike to both Timberline Lake and Buck Mountain as the trail ends just before a giant boulder field near Stewart Draw Creek. Death Canyon Trailhead is the beginning of this all day adventure. This portion of Grand Teton National Park is remote, so route finding skills and a general knowledge of the area are a definite bonus. Buck Mountain and Timberline Lake are a relatively short distance at nearly 5 miles but the elevation gain is nothing to take lightly. 5,100 feet separate you from the peak of Buck Mountain and the Death Canyon Trailhead.
