When I saw You're Under Arrest I was like: "Yaaaay~" You know, I started watching this show because of the 'Spin the Sakugabooroulette' video that you did with The Davoo, and I was a bit bummed out when I got to the 5th episode and there was a very noticeable drop in animation quality, then I realised that the first 4 were actually the 1994 OVA, and starting with the 5th it was actually the 1996 TV series, but oh well, it still looks better and has more/better shading than most modern anime (matter of taste) and honestly, I think the writing got better as the show went along, because the more I watch it the better I like it! The more time I spend with those characters the more I get to know them and the more I like them, which is a pretty good thing! Also, Aoi Futaba is best girl, I don't even care...

I propose a new Category called Cute Girls Do Money, it's a category for shows meant to shill merchandise, have lots of tie-in music and exist to make money from little girls. Examples include Ojamajo Doremi, Precure, Aikatsu, PriPara, and Sailor Moon.
@CtisGaming7 жыл бұрын
Potential names: "Cute Girls Print Money", "Mahou Mulla", "Mahou Sweat Shop", "Dollar Dollar Baby!", "The THOT of Money", "Cash-In Chan goes to bank", "Loli Con-Girl", "Magical Shill ______".
@WalkingGirlKoi7 жыл бұрын
tokyojesusfist I don't think he meant that they were bad, but that they're simply "milked". However, what is hilarious about this comment is that most of the shows named are magical girl shows and being a fan of them myself how far merchandising goes with them is hilarious. Toei just manages to be the master of that, a good number of shows in the same genre don't get the same treatment.

The term I think that fits what this chart is trying to be is a taxonomy, as a note. I noticed you kept dancing around seeming to try to find the term for stuff that roganizes like that. That said, good chart and interesting break-down. I think you're right in that some areas are stretches in part because not a lot of anime actually is of that stuff. (The overtly yuri ones are what? Sakura Trick and bits of Mai-Otome?) I think part of what complicates that category is that the so much yuri is kind of just latched onto other things on the list already. But yeah, interesting stuff regardless.

The bit on Joshiraku is kinda funny. It isn't really about rakugo because the interactions take place in a sort of break room. There are also some excursion sections that I love because of the street clothes. So it's not a club activity anime and it's not insane enough compared to the others in the insane category so I think it would be under "doing fun stuff".

> Kindred Spirits on the Roof Hey, I remember that one. I was surprised (though not exactly disappointed) when it actually had sex scenes. Thing with that one was kinda how it felt... very "real", sort of. Aside from the, uh... _pretty coincidence-y_ premise of "This school is *_FULL_* of lesbians!", it felt very down to earth, and I really loved it for that. Hell, that even goes for the sex scenes, which felt very simple and realistic compared to most stuff with sex in it out there.

@CaraDoesThings7 жыл бұрын
I give them credit for that for sure, but maybe what doesn't draw feminists (in most cases) to the series is that they are ultimately made for a male audience, and that the way the girls act can be idealized.
@PlaystationMasterPS37 жыл бұрын
well, Bechel test doesn't actually tell you all that much about any particular show. it's more for media analysis on a larger scale, or as a part of a battery of tests. CGDCT shows being a good example of why. they pass be default, and thus you learn nothing

Sound! Euphonium could probably count under the cute girls do After-School Clubs. The way the show is advertised is almost entirely about all the cute girls'. Even though there are important male characters like Taki and Shuuichi the crux of the show is on its' female characters. edit lol didn't realize it was under drama. I feel after school club might be more fitting for it though because the focus is on their club activities and the drama that erupts from the show is due to stuff happening in the after school club.

Just a suggestion: You explain that it's not a guide to the best of the sub-genres. However you put "to recommend the best starting points" in the opening explanation, which some people might misinterpret as "best of the subgenre", hence the confusion. Two nitpicks. Joshiraku is explicitly about adults. I didn't get that at first because their appearance is so ambiguous, but they mention once that only one of them isn't of drinking age. This is their workplace. But even with that said i'm not sure it fits in the workplace category, because it's not about rakugo. That's just a backdrop. It's about exploring non-sequitors, like an early piece of dialogue in a Tarantino movie. Maybe it would go best in the "fun" category, even though their discussions maybe aren't "fun activities" either. Yama no Susume, on the other hand, i kind of want to see in the after-school club category, even though it's not technically a club. It's just their hobby, but that show is pretty darn detailed about how mountain climbing works. It is semi educational. It is very important that it's about mountain climbing, unlike all the other shows in that category. Well, maybe Koufuku Graffiti is important that it's about food, but the rest are fairly non-distinct fun having.
