We made a commercial for Stockholm, on the subject "typical Swedish behaviour".
This was a school assignment for Sp2C in Blackebergs Gymnasium, Stockholm 2012.
I don't own any of the music in the video.

No! Fnord, that is just a sad coincidence, the reason so many foreigners(refugees) immigrate to Sweden is because we are industrious and we have welfare benefits that people can claim. The Swedish model is incompatible with mass-immigration.

I ride the train here in the US and there are often Swedes that come from the airport in the train, and people start talking to them (like we always do) and having these long conversations til they leave the train, they must think we are nuts.
@pappaOfswe
@pappaOfswe 9 жыл бұрын
latengocomoburro Well if we do come to a conversation we stick it out, but in our day to day life we try to avoid it so we dont get stuck in a conversation+fika for 4 hours everyday. It's a defense mechanism we have produced so we can actually do stuff during the day.
@xperiahenrik
@xperiahenrik 8 жыл бұрын
+latengocomoburro I think the rule is more like "don't iniate conversation" rather than it's people not wanting to talk. It's kind of a "mind your own bussiness" thing I think. A lot of people here (in Sweden, I'm a swede) would probably be happy to talk, it's just that people don't iniate conversation in case that would bother the other person. Since nobody does it, it is seen as kind of weird thing to do, striking up a conversation with a random stranger. I've had random people talk to me on the bus and stuff before but they were mostly weirdos. As a swede I've got to say though, when I'm in the US, the openness is one of the things I appreciate the most.

There are now quite a few of this "How to live in Sweden" video's on youtube. And unless whole thing is a prank, it seems like actual Swedeish society is made out of sociopaths with a serious communication breakdown... I still hope that whole thing is a joke, but the horrifying thing are the comments from actual Swedish people, who say things like "ja,ja, this is how you should behave when you are in Sweden"...

Actually it pretty much only applies to large southern cities as far as I've experienced. In the north people are like Swedes used to be, open and polite. Used to be you didn't need to lock your door when leaving home because everyone trusted eachother and had eachothers' backs. And the cutting in line is bs, I know very few people that'd remain silent and just glare.

I see that Sweden and/or Stockholm is quite similar to Helsinki. People hate if you stand on the left side of the escalator here as well and generally speaking don't care if someone was being mugged in front of your eyes or had passed out on the street when it's autumn and cold outside. The only exception is that Swedes don't usually like us Finns. Although the feeling is rather mutual - we don't usually like Swedes either.

I agree with you but as a typical Swede I can honestly say that i do the same thing. The reason is that Sweden are extremely proud and hates getting embarrassed more than almost anything, the reaction also usually depends on the situation. For example, if i fall and i think that at the most 1-3 people saw i will stand up as quickly as possible and keep on as if nothing happened and ignore the pain, if 5+ people saw i will laugh it of so that i will feel less embarrassed(and ignore the pain) XD

Missing the train, or Metro in Budapest, Hungary. During rush hour is no big deal. They come every minute, how ever they only run just a little past 11 at night. If you miss the last one, you can scream and throw things to the wall, there is no shame in that. You will have to go up to the surface, to take one of the night buses, that only comes every hour, but on a positive note, you may end up in a nearby pub (they are everywhere) and have agood time, and you may not make it home 'till morning.

But something very important to know when you go to Sweden is that everybody have there personal sphere which you can't get into cause then it would be awkward. Sort of a mixture of the german and english cultures. We brits hate telling someone if they're embarrassing themselves for example. Personally I think it's worse to let them carry on so I often overstep the line of good manners and tell them, thereby embarrassing myself...

That was a funny vid. Most people are self conscious around others so nothing new there. The toilet paper scene was extraordinary, I think friends would hint at the problem, even in Sweden.

Australia is almost the same. Except for the food on face part. If that happens here, we don't care if we laugh because they have food on their face, it's hilarious. They laugh too XD We'll also help them clean it. It's good to see that Australia and Sweden are alike in some way :) G'day från Australien!

I hate people who walk on escalators. If someone acts like I'm in THEIR way, because they want to walk up, I will curse them out.

well it's sort of an unwritten law in stockholm, you do NOT stand on the left side of the escalator, that side is for people in a hurry. it makes it easier for everyone, and it's basic respect not to stand in people's way, especially when everyone knows the "rules" beforehand

I never just STAND on an escalator. I mean really, just how lazy can you be? It's not so you DON'T HAVE to walk but so you can get to where you're going that much quicker! :) Though, for the older folks, I can understand. For THEM it may very well be to serve that purpose;) ...but as for you young punks (lol, not that I'm old myself),....GET A MOVE ON! Get out the damn way!

Silje Klein Well considering that, then it makes perfect economical sense. A lot of people here in the States, however, don't have those kind of social graces enough to stand to the side.
@51MontyPython

Silje Klein lol, no, actually, I can relate myself, personally, but of course, I'm also not like most Americans. We have a lot of people here (especially of certain demographics), who do not possess the sort of trait you describe. Even just the very thought of the possibility of one of their actions or their physical location/position being any inconvenience to anyone else seems to be as far removed from some individuals' otherwise cognizant thought processes as one could possibly expect. But, like I said, it isn't everyone who is like that, but there are a lot who are. You'll notice it especially in groceries stores with small aisles, or airport conveyor belt walkways, or what I remember experiencing in high school, narrow hallways, where people (especially the fat ones, and especially those of certain demographics) tend to just be in your way somehow, constantly, no matter what you try to do, and you wanna talk about SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW walkers?! lol With some people I swear it's like they are literally _TRYING_ to be in your way or block you as much as they possibly can. I think some people do it on purpose, even if only semi-consciously, whether out of spite, bitterness, resentment, or just from having an overall chip on their shoulder where they feel like doing anything but this (actually being consciously and deliberately courteous, out of empathy and compassion for your fellow human beings in a polite way and for reasons that most normal folks just already understand inherently), means that they are somehow going out of their way to let _other_ people 'walk all over them,' so to speak (this applies especially to those with a certain 'victim' mentality), when actually just the opposite if anything is the case. But yeah, you'll have these really lazy fat people especially who'll use up as much personal space as they possibly can, no matter where they are standing, without any thought to those around them who might also be trying to 'get around' ...literally;) ...as in, "get around_them_ lol) And it's not even so much they're weight as it is where they walk/stand. It can be frustrating. But, like I say, most people are generally more courteous than that. It's jut those annoying and inconsiderate few.

Silje Klein Well, no, that would be a _good_, _rational_ fear. There are crazy drivers all over the place; I don't care _what_ country you're from :) So you always have to be cognizant, aware of your surroundings--i.e _not_ walking and texting, as so many now do (and not to mention as well because of the # of those who are also _driving_ and texting), because when you have so many trying to whip in and out in a hurry there's no telling when someone might accidentally slam you. It happens more frequently in bigger cities of course, especially when you have a larger number of lanes, and/or if you happen to have a lot of people (whether immigrants or 'locals') who don't understand the nation's driving laws/etiquette (because they didn't receive their driving education there (or at least didn't get much out of it if they did ;)

Silje Klein I agree with your escalator rule! I'm American and that rule doesn't really exist here...but, personally, I follow it anyway. I always stand to the right in case anyone wants to get by...I feel it's just common courtesy! But, I'm one of few over here, haha. I want to go to Sweden...I think I would fit in well. >.< (I also do the "walk until there's no cars" thing, too. lol)

We are pretty cold but only until we become friends or athleest find a common subject to talk about. Most Swedes are just very proud in themselves and will do all they can to not be embarrassed or to look that they are anything less than perfect. Most friends DO tell you if you look anything less than presentable though(but that depends on what kind of people you hang out with)

Well it's kind of common sense in Sweden that you always stand on the right side of the escalator, walk on the right side of that rode and that people getting of the subway should go before those getting on.
