I agree with you on this point. I have a S&W 10-shot 4” K-frame and a S&W 6-shot 3” J-frame. The J is a pocket/tackle box gun and the K I use mostly for target practice. I’m going to disagree on the “only one handgun” though. As much as I love the 1911, it just can’t match a .357 magnum revolver for versatility. The ability to shoot anything from snake shot to mountain lion loads makes it the best “one gun” option, IMO.

I’m in my 60’s, and my carry has always been a pocket revolver. My current is a model 327 PC, which fits nicely in just about any pocket. I don’t like surprise’s, especially in a gunfight. No jams, no accidental discharge, and no safety to fuss with. Just pull and go to work.

Good video Sarge. I bought my Taurus 94 in the 80's. It never ran well in DA mode, so I finally sent it back for warranty service. It was just a lemon. No matter what type of 22lr or springs I changed out, it just wouldn't run. Taurus notified me that it cannot be repaired and would keep it and give me 450 bucks towards a new gun from their catalog. Pretty good warranty there. I've chosen the new 8 shot SS revolver with the 3 inch barrel and adjustable rear sight. The 94 has been discontinued as that type is now offered by Rossi as well as the reliable 83 in 38 special. Taurus now owns Rossi. Kudos to Taurus for their warranty service. This new one will be the tackle/tool box gun.

I agree, something manual like a lever action. I inherited my grandparents gallery gun. Reliable pump action and the octagon barrel is cool. I have this same Taurus revolver but I had to send it back for repair because it would jam. I didn’t even know a revolver could jam but the cylinder would get stuck and wouldn’t rotate. My tackle/tool/glove box/boot gun is a .32 though. I always have a little .32 acp in my pocket or some .32H&R mag in a revolver near by and my daughter has .32 in her LCR and my mom has .32 in her CarterArms OffDuty. Simple pistols to operate for them, no hammers or extra levers or buttons for them to worry about.

It’s hard to argue against a good 22RF revolver. As a collector (my wife says accumulator) of all things with triggers that go bang. I have several 22RF revolvers in my collection ranging from Ruger Single Six convertibles to several Heritage SAs and a bunch of High Standard, H&R, I J and even a Taurus Tracker convertible. I think the one that best fits your subject matter is an older IVER Johnson “pull pin” with a 4” barrel. Just to insure you I’m not a total waste of skin I have 20 1911s in my accumulation and each one is unique.

I bought a used Heritage Barkeep in .22lr a couple years ago for $99 at a local gun store. I went to the Heritage website and ordered a .22wmr cylinder for an additional $30, shipped. Funny, I’ve had it for 2 years and yet still have never fired it. LOL…I will have to change that.
@JohnPublic-dk7zd4 ай бұрын
You need to take that gun, and a box of cheap bulk ammo, to the range...it is relaxing to load, shoot, unload, repeat, repeat, repeat...the barkeep won't be the ultimate tack driver, but I think part of the fun in plinking is missing as often as you hit...an hour of trigger time shouldn't cost more than $10 in ammo...the magnum adds a little oomph to the gun, but the bread and butter should be much cheaper bulk...I've heard some of the newer Heritages can be spotty about build quality, ours has always run just fine...don't sweat scratches, dings, worn finish, it IS a $99 gun, and it doesn't affect operation...the gun is easily cleaned, and if you ever want to try working on a firearm, this is the gun to do it on (lots of folks repair springs, grips, remove safety, etc. on these guns by themselves)...but seriously, go have fun...!

It's funny you brought this topic up because I've been looking at short barrel 22 revolvers lately. I've got a good selection of early Colt, Winchester and Ruger 22's, but nothing really short... I visit one of our local pawn shops several times a week because they always gets good guns in and I know them really well, so I get good deals when I find something I like. Recently I scored Two lightweight Commanders, and a Series 70 Gov't model. Colts of course LOL... Anyways, last week I picked up another 3 screw Ruger Single Six 22 lr, and an early Marlin model 39 22 lever rifle but my search for a nice used short barreled 22 goes on. I will probably just buy a new one because they are pretty cheap. While the 22 probably isn't anybody's favorite caliber for self defense, a lot of people disregard them for that use. While I've never used one for that purpose, there are people that know a lot more about a 22 for defensive use than I do, and from what I've read, a 22 lr to the melon can be very effective for those that are a good shot, because the bullet will enter said melon, but it usually won't exit, so it bounces around like a ping pong ball and the results can be devastating... Even for those that aren't good enough to make those shots, there have been plenty of bad guys that were permanently taken out of a fight by a 22. There was one that happened about 6 years ago IIRC, in the small town where I live by a nurse walking home from work late at night. There have been plenty that at least lost the will to keep fighting too. Besides, 22's are fun and really cheap to shoot...

Ely 22.LR ammo is used for Olympic shooting events. As far as I am concerned, CCI Mini Mags are much better. Ely ammo is all lead with a blue colored wax coating. With the cost of ammo these days, it's worth buying a quality 22 revolver because you can afford to shoot it a lot. A quality 22 handgun of any type is a great training tool that will let you practice a lot without breaking the bank. Don;t go cheap on a rimfire just because the ammo is inexpensive. I have a Kel Tec P17 that shoots great - you do need to ensure that the ammo will cycle it - can be a little picky - don't have to worry about that with a revolver. Anyway, I totally agree that everyone should have a .22LR pistol of some kind... and plenty of ammo to go with of course - as a bare and I mean bare minimum.

You had me sold up until you said you carry a Taurus. At that point, you might as well start throwing fishing weights.

If somebody threatens me with "only a Taurus", you can bet your ass I'm gonna feel in fear for life or limb and respond accordingly, even if you would not.

Glock 19! Yeah baby!😂 but I carry my S&W 442 or Ruger SP 101 in .38 and .357 mag. Respectively! 1911 is to heavy and can’t stand up to my Glocks. Get with old man!😂😂😂

yes , a 22LR revolver is always good to have. I have the stainless 3 inch barrel version of that gun. it is older and has wood grips and of course the 9 rounds. and it is next to me now with stingers . my S&W M60 38 Special is also with me.
