It's the journey that is important Erik, not the destination, and what a hell of a journey you are having. You'll get to Greenland eventually, but it's great fun following the passages on your journey in the meantime.

You're one of the "giant adventurers" that I follow on KZbin. What impresses me the most is that although you are far more brave and courageous than the rest of us, and no matter how focused you are on reaching your goals, you at the same time have the mental capacity to assess risks and to know when you should back down. My deepest respect!

The back injury is most likely due to the time you spent in hospital. That weakens your core muscles in the floor of your pelvis. I've had a similar situation. Moving is so critical to future mobility. Good decision, but very very hard. Yes, do it again.

Imagine doing something so challenging that your decision to sail home early 1200+ miles across dangerous seas is considered the ‘safe’ decision 😂 Let that sink in Erik The Viking. You are doing things most cannot fathom. You are a source for inspiration and your videos are top notch. Not sure if you still create them 100% on your own but wow, definitely have a professional feel to them. Congratulations on getting home safe and planning your next attempt. That was not a given.

Ive sailed between Iceland and Greenland many times when i worked as a fisherman from Iceland and i think you definitely made the right choice. Weather up near Scoresby sound can be brutal in the fall and the changes can happen so fast. Greenland icecap can really mess with the weather there and weather can go from being pleasant to 60+ knots in no time

Each attempt to get to Greenland is an adventure in itself. Alone, you push yourself and your little boat in such immense and potentially inhospitable seas and you make such interesting videos, that I for one will never get tired of this channel, even if you have to make 100 attempts more.

I've said before, I'm not a sailor. But I love your youtube channel. Grit, determination. Beautiful scenery and so at one with nature. I'm sure most viewers will feel sad along with you as I do. This is not a failure though, you cannot control nature and living to try again is the most important lesson from this that can be learned. See you next season.

Eric there will be a next time of that I have no doubt. Please keep making these wonderful programmes. They should be on Discovery Channel or such like. Would be good to have a sailing channel on digital tv channel where these kind of of YT productions can find a home and perhaps an even bigger audience. Erik-- We have been following you for quite some time now, and we respect you even more for making the decision to head home. Offshore passage-making, short- or single-handed is among the riskiest endeavors, and you were walking a fine line of go/no-go for a fair bit of that sail it seems. You made the right call! On another sailing-related question, we have a 12m aluminum cutter, and we would like to see how you secure your lazy running back stays. We tried heavy duty bungee cord, but it looked like yours have a line that you can snug them up with. How do you rig that, would you be willing to share a drawing or picture? Cheers for making some legit sailing content! Christopher and Ivana

Being a sailor can do things to you. It can make you practical. It can make you a dreamer. It can make you a hard-headed realist and it can make you a bit romantic and a little superstitious. It can make you goal-oriented and relentless and it can make you dispassionate and philosophical. Best not to succumb to "get-there-itis." It's the Number One cause of heartache and disaster in aviation and the nautical. You'll get there when the time and circumstances are right and not beforetime. I look forward to the videos to come. Bon voyage.

Ah! I have loved following every journey you make, from small to big, you inspire me and so many others with your courage and strength and I hope to see you sailing for many more years to come (health be willing), just know that even when you're alone out there on the briny blue, that thousands of people sail with you through your videos. Back pain suggestion: consult a professional who can draw up a training program to strengthen your back. Last year I spent about 5 months going to the local hospital where they taught me all kinds of exercises to strengthen what they call "your core". Since completing the program, I have not had any pain attacks anymore. I'm sure you'll reach Greenland soon.. these types of projects are not the kind to give up on.
