I work allot! I often can't complete a project in one sitting- my perfectionist side slows me down too- many times when I return the clay is too far gone.... Is there a way to reinvigorate it without causing slaking or crumbling from the air n moisture exchange? - obviously I've tried n tried, i wrap it, I put it in the basement but 3 days n it's bone

Hi Deanna, There are a couple of things that you can do to keep your work fresh. 1. Make a damp box by pouring about 2 inches of plaster in the bottom of a plastic bin with a lid. When the plaster has dried and you want to use it just pour some water on the plaster and let it absorb then put your work in it and close the lid. 2. I have had success bringing back dry clay to leather hard by wrapping it in a damp (not dripping wet) towel and letting the clay absorb the moisture slowly. Be careful not to leave it too long and check its progress every so often. This works well for clay scraps by wrapping them in the wet towel and then a plastic bag and leaving them overnight. It works best with smaller pieces. Clay cannot be revived by simply spraying which just wets the surface and not the inside. Think of clay as a very dense sponge. Also be careful to wrap the piece evenly because the water will make it expand and for example on a slab box or coil piece, crack. If you get the clay too wet when it is dry it will just turn into slip. Good luck!!
