I saw that race and I knew I had to have a v8 Vega! Motion Performance was building V8 Vegas in 1973 but I couldn't afford one. So I went to the bank and emptied my saving account ($2300) and bought a 1973 Vega GT with the intention of dropping a V8 in my new car. Took me a year to save and I got a 350 LT1 from the junk yard! I built my own motor mounts jerked the 4banger out and dropped the V8 in hooked a Muncie rock crusher 4-speed in and thought I was ready to go track! Well I won the first but the second race I twisted the driveshaft off. Loaded it on the trailer and back to the garage. The junk yard gave my one free since I was a good customer? The next weekend back to the track. My first run was 11 sec. The second run ripped the rearend out! Bullshit!!! Back to the garage! So I bought used rear end out of a old race car. 488 gears-strange axels posi traction!!! I am ready to go now {So I thought) First run was in the 10'S Happy-Happy-Happy. Second run got the slicks really hot. Came off the line did a small wheelie hit second gear and twisted the unibody ? Fuck this drag racing! Should have bought a Motion Performance and save some money!

My first car was a 72 Vega Wagon I V8 swapped about 1980. I built a 350 SBC similar to a 1970 LT1, but with a bit more camshaft, Chevys 292 cylinder heads & edelbrock Torker intake. Turbo 350 & 2500 stall converter, narrowed 12 bolt rear with 4:10 gears. Drag shocks & two batteries where the spare tire well used to be. It was quick and didn't spin the tires unless the asphalt was wet. Thie think I didn't do, but should have... was put subframe connectors in it. That engine cracked the lower front factory four link mounts and they started to peel off the car. I sold it. I wish I didn't.

@@RareCarsRevival The problem isn't that I don't like nostalgic car stories, the problem is that there are so many channels like yours relying on AI to write and read them. It completely removes the humanity out of it, and what is the point of nostalgia without the humans? I'm probably replying to an AI generated comment for that matter, so what's the point? The human behind this machine obviously doesn't understand real human gear heads, or real human car culture, or he/she wouldn't need to ask a computer to make videos to leverage us for views. @@webn8 Thanks for your thoughtful reply! I hear you, and you're right, there is a certain charm to the human connection in car culture. You get the sense of camaraderie, the shared passion, and the personal stories that come from real people. While AI can be a helpful tool for creating content, it can't replace that entirely. This is why Ford put the 302 in pintos for emissions reasons
@thegreenerthemeaner6 ай бұрын
Ford NEVER did that while I worked on the line at the Dealership. They put the 302 2bbl V8 in the Fox bodied Mustang in 1978 Cobra. In 1979 you could get a 255 V8 in the Mustang Ghia. The largest Pinto engine was a 2.8 V6 shared with the Mustang. Pintos were easier to swap a V8 into versus a Vega, but required the engine to have a rear sump oil pan.
