One thing I discovered today is the book is by Coleman Caldwell Hatfield the son of Coleman Alderson Hatfield ,So it is Devil Anses great grandson, not grandson. These names are hard to keep right sometimes, especially when it said online the wrong Coleman to start!

great story! man i lived in a 14x80 mobile home for 17 years in ohio before i moved to florida, but after seeing the exit road you were driving down that holler on, i would have loved to have been there to see the day all of those mobile homes were delivered and set up! there had to be some pretty sketchy maneuvering done just to get them up the holler, let alone onto the site!

Wow, a captivating story Leo. A colon resection in 1879? I wonder if they used anesthesia. I had a resection in 2003 and wore an illeostomy bag for 6 months while the resection healed. I can imagine the pain Cap went through with that area of his colon not being allowed to rest. Food coming from his abdomen until his colon healed is mind boggling. People had stronger body constitution back then than today I guess. Merry Christmas!
