@@Ilikerapalil I can't disagree. I am a huge fan of all of them. When I was younger I got into more underground lyrics... So I found a joy in Aesop and even Eyedea. More of Eyedea's later stuff before he passed away. But Aesop still is the most "complex" lyricist with the largest vocabulary, but it's how he weaves his words that grasp me. Either way, I love your picks bc on a more mainstream level, you are correct. And Big L deserves more respect for how great he was... And I got love for the others you mentioned as well. Also... MF DOOOOOOOOOOM! LOL. Kudos friend!

"Primate climb up a spine and attach" is just another way of saying the common phrase "monkey on his back." This is one of my favorite bars in the song because "something something monkey on his back" fits into the rhyme scheme and I feel that was what he originally wrote, but then being Aes he decided that wasn't weird/obscure enough so he changed it lol

i agree, aes is master class and people either think "oh, ive never heard him before so forget it." or "i dont care for asap rocky" without giving it a chance. but also people cant wrap their domes over his style and give up trying to understand it. when even just listening to his cadence and schemes is plenty for the "lazy listener." the complexity of his flow is on par with his writing. he definitely needs more attention then he gets.

Definitely one of those types where your favorite Aesop Rock song is the one you're currently listening to, though I do have a particular fondness for the Spirit World Field Guide album. Aesop is one of the greatest poets to ever touch a pen. He's also the goat at this point. Nobody else in hip hop has a catalog as dense or as flawless as he does. His production talents are also incredibly underrated. Even his collabs are solid gold. Dude is a genius.

What a comprehensive breakdown. Thanks for reacting to a favorite of mine. Your analysis was thorough and constructive. Also, when someone rhymes vowel sounds, or at least perceived vowel sounds, that's called assonance. Aesop does that a lot. I believe it's why I looked up the term way back when.

Aesop Rock will blow your mind. His old stuff is so layered and dense, but as he's aged i feel like he's refined his art so well. Check out Jazz Hands from Garbology (2021), which is still as metaphoric and abstract, but feels like a far more polished track than his mid-90s released. There's a bunch of common themes throughout each of his albums, too. Anti-capitalism, anti-authoritarianism and of course his cat Kirby.
