Death is one of the greatest and most legendary bands in metal with a flawless discography. Chuck Schuldiner was a genius songwriter and fantastic guitarist. He will be sorely missed.

When I'm skipping through songs on my daily drive, I regularly pass up bands I love. However, when Death pops up in the list, 99% of the time I'm leaving it on, regardless of which album it's from. Chuck's story first inspired me in an issue of Guitar World back in 2007, and when I saw/listened to Pull the Plug live on the DVD that came with that issue, I was blown away by the intensity and visible, audible passion. I was 14 years old. To this day, closing in on 32, I am still inspired by Chuck and his music. He had uncompromising integrity, which is something we can all learn from. R.I.P to Chuck. We all miss you, man. Great video, man!

Huge talent gone too soon. I began listening to Death during my teenage years, around 2011, which made me fall in love with metal in general. Certainly helped me through rough times, and still doing so. Of course, was devastated once I learned that he passed away already. Not just because it would've been a dream come true to see him live, but also because he seemed like such a gentle, loving soul. I love his other project, Control Denied, which has mixed opinions. The demos for his next album sounded amazing too... such a shame. My personal favorite albums are Symbolic and the Sound of Perseverance. "The Moment of Clarity" has a special place in my heart. I hope one day I'll manage to visit his grave at least. Was great listening to you talking about Death. Greetings from Berlin, Germany :)

I started listening to chuck in 2006 ish. Around freshman/sophomore in HS. I had and have never since had an artist that was gone before i found them that i feel like...i miss them. The only artists i usually feel comfortable enough saying i miss...truly...i was around for. Plenty of artists who also died before i found them. But i dont feel like i miss them like that. Because i wasnt there. Chuck is different. I feel like something i never even had was robbed from me. His best work is the album playing. My favorite is the album the fragile art of existence. I enjoyed chuck more with his progressive vision. Also a power metal junkie. Come on. But the best album is the one playing. There isnt an album you can hear that opinion for and think its wrong. I listened to scream bloody gore drunk the other week and even when its the polar opposite of my favorite, i couldnt help but wonder "was this chucks best?"

Chuck and Death pretty much were the pioneers for almost every subgenre of Death Metal, from MeloDeath to Technical Death to Prog Death. All because of whatever Chuck was into at the time.

Chuck was and still is the key to my musical preference and obsession of death metal. I found Death in the mid 90s and from there I found myself in a beautiful rabbit hole of some of the most darkest, nastiest, beautiful, and brutal music ever produced. Most humble thanks to Chuck Schuldiner for his genius and his existence.

Great job explaining the genius that is Death and Chuck. It very hard to fully articulate what Death created, how they did it, and the impact it had being such a multi-faceted band even from one album to the next, while still being the epitome of iconic. I like how you touched on how Death transitioned between albums based on the different band members and how it impacted the nuances of the band and their sound on each record.

Great video and tribute paid to Death and Chuck! One of the key difference between Desth and other bands was definatelly the vsriety of styles Chuck explored. I personally switched into jazz years ago but still like to listen to their records and never get bored of it.

I enjoy how if you listen to scream bloody gore and the fragile art of existence they sound like they not even related. But when you listen to all 8 chuck albums you hear a very step by step evolution. The journey makes sense. Every next album sounds like the last with a lil something extra

Kinda like you, my favorite album is also The Sound of Perseverance. I think the music really pops, especially the guitar tone, which to me, is much more audible than in the other albums. I also prefer screamed vocals over growled ones so...there's that.

One thing I'd like to point out here is the evolution of the band logos across time. You can see them mature as all the clutter (blood drops, spider web, and eventually the reaper) gets removed piece by piece. By TSOP, Death had achieved their final form, and it shows. Its sound is so different from anything else, but it absolutely positively slays. This growing maturity is also reflected in the lyrics, which went from "Decapitated head licking your cunt" (Sorry, but this is Painkiller level of lyrics) to "Passion is a poison laced with pleasure bitter sweet" in just a little more than a decade. I always wondered why I learned about verse meters in school. Where the hell would I ever use these irl? Well, right here. To appreciate the lyrical beauty of a death metal song. PS: I don't mean to shit-talk Painkiller, I think it's a 10/10 album/song, but the lyrics are... interesting. Oh, and one more thing: IIRC, Schuldiner died of a Glioblastome. Even in our modern day, survival chances are grim. On average, people often even don't make it past two years after diagnosis. A quarter century back, no money in the world could've helped Chuck, imho. I wonder how many great songs and albums we lost.
