As a child, when visiting relatives in the country, I'd run around the fields with my cousins, and we'd drink from springs flowing from the ground... wells. Pure, ice cold water. In the 80s, on a long delayed return visit, I went to one particular well... and it was destroyed... polluted, filthy, disgusting... It's symbolic of what the RC did to Ireland and its people.
