Played a Modern Merfolk mirror at FNM, my opponent played Lord of Atlantis and passed the turn. They very quickly learned what "all other Merfolk gain islandwalk" meant.

I have a merfolk deck that is mostly Lorwyn with some older cards mixed in (including Seasinger and the unmentioned Vodalian Mage) and it is by far my favorite deck to play even after all these years.

Another pretty interesting addition to the tribe came with Theros Beyond Death. "Dalakos, Crafter of Wonders" didn't make much of a splash in standard, but it's such an odd and fun build around for commander

Figured out a way that can show how merfolk can block land based attackers. Say you have a merfolk and you opponent's landlocked creature is attacking, your merfolk blocks the attack by with a flick of the wrist raises a wall of water to halt the land restricted creature's attack because it can't get past the violent torrent of water wall to continue it's full frontal assault. The enemy creature can only seethe with anger and frustration while pacing back and forth trying to find a way around this air tight defense tactic. What do all of you think? Any good? Sound logic? Interesting scenario?
