my grandfather was a garda in Ennis and along with a colleague were sent in a small boat to guard a plane crashed in the estuary, they were subsequently swept away in the night but managed to save themselves.

Peter, a wonderful historical account in memory of all who sadly lost their lives in the early days and beginnings of commercial aviation in Ireland of which I had not fully known until now. Thank you.

My mother was a young nurse in Galway in 1958. She was at the docks attending to the bodys of the KLM Hugo De Groote plane crash. She especially recalled her special job which was an air hostess. My mother said she was a beautyful young woman. She found it the saddest job of her career. RIP Nurse Cathy Dempsey Nee Keane. RIP the passengers and crew.

About 5 or 6 years ago my dad and I went to a lecture in the Shannon oakwood hotel about air disasters in Shannon airport, we were both shocked at how many there had been and how deadly they were too.

I'd love to listen to your documentary. Unfortunately you need to invest in a much better microphone. The low quality of the microphone coupled with over driving it made for a sound recording that is virtually unintelligible.

I can hear him perfectly well. Obviously there is an Irish accent we have to allow for, but as he seems to be a guitar player musician, I'm sure the microphone was of adequate quality. Might just be your speaker is a fault 🤔

December 28,1946 my mother ,a war bride from Scotland was waiting with a set of 6 mo old twins ,myself and my brother for the arrival of the Star of Cairo from Paris . We were to board that plane on the way to New York City . However the plane crashed on landing . This is information I learned from my mother at a later date She is now 97 yo and still remembers the event . We were put up in Limerice until another plane became available .TWA grounded all planes during the investigation .Finally Pan Am sent a plane to take us to NYC arriving Jan 31,1946 . My Father now working for TWA was able to meet us .

That was very interesting and obviously very sad. My ex-wife and I on our Honeymoon in Ireland touring on our Harleys, visited the old Shannon flying boat station. Apparently the old terminal café there was where the Irish Coffee was invented, so we couldn't say no to one 😊 My circa 1970 Airfix kit of a Boeing 707 was in Aer Lingus livery and I made a flying model of a V-tail Beech Bonanza. Was that the actual aircraft the ex Constellation pilot was killed ?

Why didn't you mention the Swissair Convair 440 that crashed at Shannon, arriving for a fuel stop, on its delivery flight from the USA July 15, 1956, killing all 4 on board?
