This period is fascinating. Do we know anything about the Gaelic chieftains inauguration ceremonies? Even though the Gaelic political and military structure did not survive the Anglo-Norman invasions, the culture and social norms left powerful markers on their communities. It must have been very strong in its day.

I did a video on what might have been the inauguration place of the last MacCarthy Mor (In search of Cahircanaway: the Inauguration site of the Last MacCarthy Mór kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIuXm4GCmJ5msMk). I might do another video on this topic eventually

@@bunyip5841 The location is amazing. Bit of a walk to get there, but you feel like you are on the edge of the world. I bring people there sometimes on tours. A long walk, but a brilliant one

@@forasfeasa Yes, the landscape in Ireland and the footprint left by the old Gaelic world on it is very atmospheric. I have just located and ordered Elizabeth Fitzpatrick's book on inauguration sites. Thank you.

Was the castle at Kanturk part of the McCarthy Mor estates..?

Kanturk may have been part of the MacCarthy Mor lordship at one stage, but as far as I know when the castle was built it was part of Duhallow, which was semi autonomous

@@tomgreene1843 I don't know Kanturk at all. I live in Valentia, which is quite a bit away. I would like to do, unfortunately, my daughter's sports only take her around Kerry so I have no excuse to explore those parts of Cork :-)

It was but as it was never really inhabited or maybe never inhabited due to the outbreak of war in the 1640s .
