The Mende's are part of the larger Mane group consisting of Mende, Loko, Vai, Kono and Gbandi. A Malian noble woman named Massah had a disagreement with the king of Mali and left with a large group of followers. They entered Liberia and conquered many groups and finally settled in Southern Sierra Leone. The Kono settled in the east, while the Vai (to go) left in search of salt and the Mende the largest group settled in the south. A small group of them wandered to the north in search of salt and were prevented by the Temnes to return. This small group became known as Loko and settled in the north

Do one on the Dan/Yacouba/Gio of Liberia & Ivory Coast next.
@sabina23834 жыл бұрын
I was just going to say the same thing, it seems like that would be a very interesting video as some of them claims to be one of the lost tribe of Israel. I’m a Dan/Yacouba from Liberia, my two great grand fathers who where both chiefs told me stories of how their ancestors ended up in Liberia. According to them their ancestors came from the Mali Empire and were part of the Mani/Manneh/Mane warriors that left the empire due to political instabilities. According to both my great grandfathers, those warriors were led by a queen who was exiled and they invaded down Guinea, Liberia, and Ivory Coast clearing everything and everyone in their way, they were virtually unstoppable. Both my great grandfathers said after the U.S. dropped off their free slaves in Liberia and those free slaves were forcing everyone under the rule of their new formed government, they tried to get the Dan region under their rule as well but were unable to, so they resulted to pacifying the Dans. My great grandfathers said there is a higher population of the Dans in Ivory Coast but I don’t know I’ve never been. With this story in mind, I get confused when some of them say they are from the lost tribe of Israel.
@Franco.Africano4 жыл бұрын
@@sabina2383 The "Israel Theory" more so refers to the history pre Mali. There is also debate on if the places mentioned in Judeo-Christian are actually in the places we are told of today. One can argue that many of the stories in these text come from numerous sources, and simply adjusted to the target audience.

My people!!!!!! My family tell me of how in the 17th century our family directly came from a royal Mende family and we are originally from Mali. We went through Liberia and split klans after one group wanted to be barbaric and the other just wanted to live decent lives. So after we separated we also went to Sierra Leoene and Guinea and made the Mandingo tribe. We even sold slaves. But our form of slavery was not like the white mans, we didn't do the raping and killing. If you came to fight us and lost to us you'd have to give up your family name and walk away from your klans and take on our names and would have to join our army. Some of the klans that lost to us after capture were allowed into our society to work the fields and home, but they were allowed to walk around freely since they gave us their klans for ours. My father and uncle told me how we did voodoo to gain powers to push the British out. One of the ways they did that was by feeding the mermaids in the wanjama rivers, this water flowed throughout all the mende villages and districts. But that's more history y'all cant handle because they are spiritual secrets. This video is half of the actual history but then again its only told in 6 mins, so good job HOMETEAM History !!

I know of the secret society in Sierra Leone, some of these people are in the Caribbean
@africakingkong79214 жыл бұрын
The Mende secret society is on a different level. Up to date, it cannot even be display on any modern platform, because it’s extremely fearful. The Sande which is for the women is just a basic way of teaching a girl child how to transform into adulthood. Even with that, it has it own side of spirituality, but not anything close to poro society, which is for the men. Within the poro society, other high level of secret societies emulated such as: the wonde, kamajor, jai. The poro society mainly teaches how to survive in any environment. The wonde on the other hands is purely about gaining power in any environment, where as the kamajor society mainly teaches you to be a warrior. The jai is basically for executing power and protecting conquered territories. If the Mende are Attack in any territories or they don’t want any enemy in their territories, they will unleash the jai to protect their territory. The kamajor is not practice at the moment, but it will always surface when the needs arrive because it is integrated into those other societies that are practice at the moment. The Mende secret societies are 10 times powerful than any black magic, you’ve seen display on social media.

I don’t know, your information is quite wrong 1. Mandingo people didn’t come from the Mende, we came from the Soninke people. 2. Mandingo people were the ones to get out of Mali and spread to go to Liberia, Sierra Leone, and other countries in Africa. Mende, Vai, Kpelle, Dan, Khasaonke, Koyinka, Dioula etc came from the Mandingo people and not the other way around. Your whole information doesn’t make any sense because Mandingo/Bambara people stayed in Mali until the Mali empire fell and that’s when we started to spread out. So if Mansa Musa and Tirmankan Traore if weren’t Mandinka/Bambara, then what was their ethnic group? We have a whole history of how came from Mauritania to Mali. I don’t want come across as rude but your whole beginning information was dead wrong and I think you need to research about Mandinka/Mandingo people and the Mande tribe as well.

Well they have a very ancient origin in commom some scholars said it was about 5000 years ago but it is not recent Mandingo/Malinke are closer to Soninke, Bambara, Dioula than Mende. Mende were alreay settled in Sierra Leone and Leone long before the Ancient Mali existed so they do not share a lot of customs with others even the language is not the same.
