Lebron was for a long time , curry was making his way up and was for a bit . It’s now Jokic and guys like Wemby, Ant, Ja, Tatum and Luka are definitely future MVPs with this type of consistent showing from the beginning of their careers. They will be the faces. Giannis is up there too but in a KD-like position , not the face , but not to be taken lightly. He did have his years tho just like when KD was a walking 30 piece.

@cjryuk1909: The league usually gets a face, which is why they’re talking about it. Some points of time it can be 2 faces of the league but people like Magic & Bird (same time), Michael Jordan, Shaq, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, & then we had Steph (same time as Lebron around 2015). So thinking that there’s going to be a new face of the league isn't really crazy, now could this be a point in which no player gets a ton of separation sure & maybe that’s a good thing for the league to promote parity & not be so championship focused. Still the league usually thrives with a face which is why they’re looking for one with Lebron & Steph getting older, with that said you can’t force it. It’ll often happens naturally

I think JJ Redick overstates Kobe being the face of the NBA. During the first 10 years, Iverson was more popular than Kobe. Many Jordan fans like myself hated that Kobe was compared to MJ. It was like a spit to the face of my generation’s hero, our G.O.A.T. From 2000-2004, Shaq was the more valuable player on the Lakers. Tim Duncan won MVPs in 2002 & 2003. Then LeBron entered the NBA and he was on par to Kobe by 2006 going 31-7-7. DWade was very exciting to watch from 2003-2006 the way Vince Carter was more exciting to watch than Kobe from 1998-2001. If Kobe was the face of the league, it wasn’t very long like for an entire decade the way Magic and MJ were. And Kobe didn’t open up to people until around 2008 when he turned 30. Kobe was more of an aloof during his early years. A lone wolf in the locker room for being so young. Shaq was the life of the party among his teammates during that Lakers threepeat. Kobe won 1 MVP because he was never a media darling. Him as the face of the NBA is more revisionist history the way people now praise the Star Wars Prequels or the Nintendo GameCube since Kobe became more likable after he dropped 60 in his final game and after he passed away. When hatred during those times turns into nostalgia which then turns into revisionist history.
@marckusduverger97766 ай бұрын
Kobe was clearly the face of the league what are you talking about!! & Iverson was not more popular than Kobe for 10 years…5 years, sure but around 2003 it was clear that Kobe was just as popular & winning championships alongside Shaq. Duncan was never the face of the league as great as he was, neither was DWade though in 06 he was scorching hot & definitely not Vince. Kobe was the face of the league for like 6 years, Lebron didn’t solely hold that title until he went to Miami. Before that at most you could say that Kobe & Lebron were the faces of the league around 09-10 but in that order as well as Kobe was the established face. Similar to Lebron & Steph after 2015 but less overlap as after Kobe won in 2010 & Lebron went to the heat you could feel a baton pass of sorts. Kobe was loved way before his final game & before he passed away & what you’re saying is more revisionist history than what you’re thinking. Kobe was the face of the league for a good while & it was very memorable

Ant only said he didn’t take All Star weekend serious, but he’s extremely serious and dedicated during the regular games. It shows Sharpe doesn’t actually pay attention or watched Edwards, he’s only spouting off a narrative parroted by many other big media talking heads who rarely watched him play. It’s not fair to target Edwards for not taking the All Star game seriously, when NOBODY was…they should get on the vets about that more, not the 22year old
