Madam, Marai Sandor is an outstanding writer, we can identify him well as a philosopher. He wrote brilliant books, his books are universal readers don't ought to be hungarian to understand his books. His language and his thought is exceptional. He expresses the struggle Hungarians went through the Hungarian history during the 20th century. He analyses mankind, reading his books will enable you grasp many figures of his novels. Looking up his name on Wikipedia will you enable to discover his life and his literary works. Andre BERENYI admirer of Marai.

his " portrait of a marriage " also delves deeply into the theme of friendship, and the romantic triangle. But its overlong I felt, and is thick with psychologising. But good to read. He is an exquisite stylist.

Hi Marian? How are you these days? I hope you are well. Since this is a re-upload, do you still recommend this book? I guess I should say, does it remain strongly in your mind after all this time? I had this on my wishlist on Amazon, but took it off recently after the very mixed reviews it seems to garner. But, if you still recommend it, then I will definitely read it. We have very similar tastes in books.

Hey Nikki, great to hear from ya!! How are you? I've been insanely busy (and *still* reading Dubliners) so I've been padding the channel content till life eases up.. 😅 it's been a while since I read this book, but I still have fond memories of it. It kind of depends on what your expectations are, it's certainly a slow paced & introspective novel. While I ultimately bought a copy, getting it from the library first was probably a good idea!
