We should be building a new generation of reactors that are safer and can’t be used as weapons. The French have been using the waste from reactors like this in their plants to make power instead on storage the hazards indefinitely onsite. This effect to restart this site might make business sense for the company but the politics of this effect could delay the nuclear power industry return to growth decades.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it like SRN said. I trust old robust analog systems over complicated systems that can malfunction. Imagine that the reactor is overheating and Windows 11 decides it's time for a mandatory unstoppable update and it triggers a meltdown.

The claim that "A.I. chips use up to 14,300 watts of power each" (1:50) is misleading. There is only one A.I. chip that uses that much power; it's made by Cerebras and it is uniquely large -- taking up an entire wafer, over 8" square. Cerebras chips are still very rare. Quoting this statistic while showing a normal sized chip is sloppy reporting, NBC. Most A.I. chips use less than 700 watts.

Seriously, someone just pulled out the most ridiculous statistic. I mean, we could put the ENIAC 1 or Turing machine in a datacenter and claim they can be used for AI. Doesn’t mean that’s what they’re using.

Its bad because of the toxic waste it produces at the end of its use. We bury that toxic waste in the ground. Nuclear would be good if we can get Nuclear Fusion as it doesnt produce any toxic waste.

Think of all the food you need to keep running your brain. All that energy. Do you know how we measure calories in food. We put it in a sealed chamber filled with oxygen and burn all of it and measure the heat output. Now take away all that fancy biomechanical processes that allow us to use food as the way we do and now have to instead rely on mechanical energy to power our brains on circuit boards/computers. That's A.I in a nutshell The biggest difference between a human mind and AI mind(aside from the body) one is created by shocking a lump of meat (gray matter) and the other is created by shocking a rock(silicon). But our brains have a biomechanical advantage. Every neuron has a resting voltage of 70 millivolt(0.07 V). Till now it doesn't look like a big thing but the calculations suggest that the human brain has regions which possess an electric filed of strength 14 million volts per metre which is much larger than a lighting strike on the ground. creating mechanical life is not easy. Hope this helps you understand a little more about it

@alreaud
@alreaud 3 күн бұрын
@@1sttigertiger426 They have to be stored in salt mines and similar impregnable underground areas and sealed up. Some can be recycled into new fuel. But at some point you have radionuclides that can't be used and must be stored for a long long time.

No. AI chips being used don’t use 14,300 watts each. It’s around 700-800. But there are other CPU chips required that use anywhere from 25 or 50 to 300. To run the main AI chips. Still nowhere near 14,300. Whoever wrote this for the video clearly isn’t good at their job as a background researcher and took the statistic from another bad background researcher. They didn’t actually do any research, fire them.

But a brain works on a sandwich... I think we should focus more on photonic processing like has been in the MIT News. Chips based on transistor technology, even the best, consume way too much power at scale, and require massive cooling.

with the new technology here Nuke power is very efficient and safe, but the babcock wilcox reactors got the bad rap. While solar and wind are being forced upon on at record high rates to perpetuate the humans in charge of weather garbage, here in California we pay the highest electric rates in the US and the most unreliable as a result of the green energy crap, my generator works well
