Per chat gpt. Asked who Zach courts is. Zack Courts is a prominent figure in the motorcycle journalism and media industry. He began his career as an editor at *Motorcyclist* magazine, where he collaborated with Ari Henning and Spenser Robert on popular video series such as "On Two Wheels," "MC Commute," and "MC Garage." In 2018, the trio transitioned to the MotorTrend network, creating the "Throttle Out" series, which featured diverse motorcycle adventures, including modifying bikes for unique challenges and international escapades. By 2019, Courts, Henning, and Robert joined the Comoto media team, contributing to RevZilla's content. At RevZilla, Courts hosts the "Daily Rider" series, where he reviews motorcycles in everyday riding conditions, providing practical insights for riders. Courts' work is recognized for its engaging storytelling and informative content, making him a respected voice in the motorcycling community.

I’m doing quite a bit of work with AI in my job and what I’m finding is exactly what you guys were discussing which is to say the quality of the answer is VERY dependent on the quality and phrasing of your question and to get really good information usually requires an iterative question/answer session and some further research on the answer you get to make sure the AI is just not completely down a strange path. In my humble opinion, the gripe with displacement creep is that generally, bikes get bigger, heavier engines that make them A bit more cumbersome, but seldom a significant increase in power to make it worth it. As discussed in said podcast, it’s often mostly done to keep up with emissions regulations. In the case of the great little Versys, there is a very significant difference in performance between the 300 and 400. The 400 has better power on the top end but from what I’ve read it’s especially an improvement in the low end. This is really nice off roading. As for size and weight? Looking at the comparable Ninja models, size is about the same and the 400 is actually LIGHTER than the 300. Add to this the fact that the 400 engine is already being produced (as the gentlemen mentioned) and has proven itself to be absolutely excellent and it would simply be a win-win. In the case of the Versys, there would really be no loss by using the 400.

I think the shorter videos would increase engagement and, in the long term, bring more visitors to the long form podcast. Just my 2¢.

All this A.I. guff coming out all I can say is we are meddling in things that ought not be meddled in! Lovin the big dad energy from Papa Spurge lol! Wouldn't a 3 cylinder engine technically be a W formation not a V? So, Honda stands with Turbo Bruce as do I! Lance is on the show today? Fantastic, he needs to be on more episodes of HS/LS. He is a font of knowledge, has a plethora of informative and entertaining stories, and is guiding light for this podcast. I think this episode should have been called "Lance vs. The Matrix" lmao! A.I. answer for question 1 is a C far to general, derivative, and also contradictory. 2nd question I would say needs to be more specific there is no one perfect beginner bike for everyone. Sorry Lance but gotta knock you down to B for that answer to question 2 as I would if A.I. recommended a scooter. A scooter is not a motorcycle and the question asked for a motorcycle. HD vs. Indian better in what way? Better at what? Far to generic a question fellas. From what I've seen new riders get too much into their own heads over counter steering. Best sport bike of all time TURBO BUSA!! Both brakes every time when on the street. I think the Dodge Tomahawk had a bigger engine than the Boss Hoss. If memory serves its powered by a Viper V-10. Im thinking single and possibly a KLR 650 but I haven't gotten one right in like 3 seasons. Wrong again, I'm worse at this than Lance lol! Kawasaki if your reading this, and I know that you are, its not OK to call it a Ninja 500 when the engine is only 451cc's. Another fine show Old Sports have Happy Thanksgiving and see you in 2!

I am not afraid of what we can AI right now, as you find out that a lot of it's answering came more from a marketing media more than from actual use and / or experience. And with something like riding a motorcycle or anything that is a physical action, it can only give an answer from a human who said it first. AI is just a fancy search engine that gives a response in a simulated manner of the appearance of a human. To quote a great movie, how could machines know what tasty wheat tasted like?

A.I. will never take your jobs. You can fact-check it all you like, but if it was just about the facts, we'd all read spec sheets instead of watching/listening to the show. But a big part of why we watch is about the _personalities_ and the interplay between everyone on the show - something AI can't do, as it doesn't have a genuine, human personality of its own. And as a bonus, we have answers strictly from a human perspective - after all, the specs sheet doesn't give the full story, and a bike with a bigger number of "whatevers" may not be actually have the dynamics, ergonomics, or enough of whatever intangible it is that makes some bikes more fun to ride than others.

I love this podcast, but after ruminating on this one for a bit, I have a couple of serious and I think valid issues with this episode, I hope you'll hear me out. First, the premise of the entire episode is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of how large language models work. You fundamentally cannot, I quote "engage in a battle of wits" with ChatGPT, because it doesn't have any wits to battle with. It's a structure of probabilities that guesses how words, sentences and paragraphs are most likely to be put together to form coherent English. To put it in simpler terms, it talk good, it don't think good. It actually don't think at all. This is why you found that the quality of its responses varies based on the quality of the prompt you put in - it's relying on YOU for the facts, opinions and ultimately the thesis of its argument, and all it can do is string those together nicely. If you don't provide it with enough facts opinions or theses for it to use, it will trawl the internet and simply guess what a reasonable one might be, based on the whims of every Tom, Dick and Harry that posts on the internet. Because of this, as you found, it's often just wrong. When ChatGPT is wrong, people freak out and say, well, that can't be, because computers are always correct! This isn't a computer in the 1+1=2 way, people. This is the annoying kid in debate class who can make anything sound correct because he talks real good. ChatGPT has no directive or incentive to be "correct" at any time. Even Google's AI, Gemini, will regularly give completely fabricated and sometimes ludicrous answers to simple questions in your search bar, but at least it will express them with immaculate grammar and spelling. For example, if you think the Ninja 400 is the best beginner motorcycle because it's affordable, has decent quality componentry, and has manageable power, but you're struggling to expand that into the format of let's say, a magazine article, or a love letter, ChatGPT is the perfect tool to do that for you. But if you just ask it what's the best beginner motorcycle, it's just going to guess the bike, the reasons why it's good, and put it into whatever format you ask it to, based on everyone else that's ever fed it information about good beginner motorcycles. Some of those people, are YOU!! Because you are professional moto journalists, the tool is highly likely to be literally regurgitating information back at you from your own work. Furthermore, because you are professional journalists, you don't need any damn help putting your thoughts and opinions together coherently and expressing them. You're already paid to do that, because you're good at it! That's why I and many others follow this channel and read Common Tread. Now that I've explained why I don't think an LLM adds anything of value, let me explain why I think using it in this way actively subtracts value from the universe as a whole. You may not be able to tell from this comment, but I love AI. I love how it's accelerated human development in everything from cancer research, to Pecco Bagnaia's spring rates, to bridge building, you name it. What I hate, is normalising the use of generative AI and LLMs to substitute for critical thought. If I was struggling to write a thank you email to someone I hate, or needed an academic article I was struggling to understand put into simpler terms, yeah, I'd use ChatGPT. But I think humans are worse off using it to relieve themselves of the burden of research by asking it open ended questions and expecting it to give them all the answers. I think we're normalising a dependance even more sinister than cocomelon for babies, or tiktok for teens. Not to mention, video and photo generative AI has already cooked the brains of our Facebook-using elders by churning out believable misinformation and disinformation at rates greater than we could have ever even imagined. Not to mention the considerable environmental cost that outweighs that of every straight-piped 2 stroke in the world. I recognise that you didn't exactly come out of this episode as ChatGPT's number 1 fans, but I do think that platforming it at all in the first place is a bit of a mistake. In the end, I found myself wishing that all the questions you asked it were just "a whole 'nother podcast", and I didn't have to listen to a flailing, flawed amalgamation of public opinion, instead of listening to my favourite moto journalists. When Lance says "this is a technology in its infancy, and it will get better", I disagree. It might get better at articulating itself, but I don't think it will get any more accurate, because it fundamentally learns based on whatever's already out there, and we already know whatever's out there has a fair amount of straight garbage. So unless outside influence comes in and starts fact-checking ChatGPT, it won't get any more accurate, just more convincing. Then you run into the problem of - who gets to fact check the machine? And even if could get more accurate, do you want it to? Do you want it to get just good enough that people start leaning on it as an all-knowing god, when in fact you can't ever be 100% sure that what it's telling you is correct? How much more accurate is accurate enough? If it just barely passed your test on this show instead of just barely failing it, would you have conceded? Hung up your keyboards and quit moto journalism? Is that a future you're looking forward to? You know who already fact-checks their work - professional journalists. Don't even give this shit an inch, advancements in technology aren't always a net good.

i realise i just ranted for 4 straight paragraphs but juuust in case i wasn't clear - i agree with your conclusions, i just think you weren't harsh enough. i don't want you to be so defeatist about it. AI is never going to take your jobs, because it needs good journos like you to feed on. it can't exist without you. i think if y'all were a little more educated about how it works, you would have had legs to stand on to be a lot harsher in your critique of it. anyways, here's Zack's last article as a Shakespearean sonnet: European bikes, made in India's bright land, A clash of worlds where thoughts do intersect. The KTM rep claims triumph, yet I stand, Disagreeing, flaws in every spec. From Aprilia’s RS to the Duke’s fame, Each machine bears European grace, Yet something’s missing-something’s not the same, A soul that’s linked to its distant place. In India, these bikes ignite pure cheer, Where they're a triumph in their market's scope. Yet here, we see them fail to meet the tier Of Euro-standard’s well-established hope. A clash of cultures, bikes, and dreams unwed- Both right, both wrong, where passion's thread is bled.

AI cannot test ride bikes- so as long as there are bikes and people want to see reviews of these bikes before they go buy one, it would be nearly impossible AI to form an opinion of how a bike rides without having a human to give the review. I watched not the news, saw the premise, and fast forwarded to the t-shirt winner. And then when you started to answer the t-shirt question with "AI," I turned it off. I don't find AI cute or interesting. Watching plagiarized data vomit out hallucinations so that some creatively bankrupt marketing dork and a venture capitalist somewhere can make money this quarter (but not next quarter) isn't entertaining. Burning enough electricity to power a small city to get wrong answers from a computer is just irritating and short-sighted. In motorcycle content, it's especially annoying.
