'A Jeju Story' tells the true but little-known events at the time Korea became divided into two separate countries.
As the demarcation lines were being drawn between the north and the south just after World War II, a small group of islanders off the southern tip of Korea took a stand to try to stop a division they feared would never be undone. What happened next was denied and covered up for decades, as families of survivors paid a heavy price in its wake after watching their own people wipe out 10% of the population. But their sacrifices, brought to life in A Jeju Story's stunning animation and sweeping orchestration, call out to the world like whispers of ancestors long departed, with a chilling warning from the other side of mortality: "Tell our story, before the world's lines are drawn forever."
It is important to share this story with the world because even though it happened in Korea, it is the story of the whole world and the cycles of power and control that appear all throughout history when groups of people try to control one another.

Hello Sohyun! I met you yesterday in Burbank at your "A Jeju Story" crowdfunding event. It was great! I enjoyed it very much. I appreciated your openess in sharing about your family's history, your graciousness in offering time to sign your books and photo taking, and treating us to bbq chicken and 떡볶이. Hopefully, there were some left afterwards. I look forward to supporting "A Jeju Story" and seeing it come into full fruition! Again, you may want to converse with some individuals who also survived the massacre and get their perspectives. @@KoreanUnnie on April 16,2014 the ferry MV Sewol. disaster or massacre, depending on who you hear from, is what I knew about and was mistaken for the JEJU story, as that vessel was going from Incheon to JEJU Island(in my recollection). Those poor children lost their lives in such a senseless way, and the memory of those phone pictures recovered was forever etched in my mind. Sorry to hear about another travesty and senseless loss of life from those who intended to preserve the country of Korea. The lives of those lovely citizens of JEJU sought protections for the majority and became the price paid. The way it was done(as told in the Burbank event) and above by you reminds us of the need remember our loved ones and the brevity of life. The resurrection of these ones and others too who sacrifices became for the cause of justice and freedom will bring much relief and joy again. But for now we are deeply saddened over their loss of life.
