As 1.7 billion people in India undergo the world most strict lockdown and the social distancing becomes a norm as a result of global Covid-19 pandemic, we share this documentary on Contact Improvisation in India - a story about movement practice that emphasises human connection and touch.
‘Journey with Contact Improv India’ documentary by Shahid witnesses the travels of Indian Contact Improv dancers and teachers and follows Guru and Adrianna’s journey with some workshops and performances. It shows the nature of how the practice of Contact Improvisation is shared in India - through performances, workshops, and intensives organized for a vast variety of people.
We invite you to sink into the time, space, and events puzzle that led to the creation of this documentary. As the release of 'Journey with Contact Improv India' meets with the worldwide circumstances that left us all retrieving back into the individual space, untouchable, and unsharable with others, this documentary becomes a reflection of ourselves. The fear of sharing the permeable surface of our skin and touching others playing against the desire to merge within the community that is based on the values of listening, respecting, and being present with each other.
CI India from the beginning was a rebellion against stiff social norms and touch taboo in India. No matter the future circumstances, the journey will continue.
