The Lee A was my first ship after completing school. Fun fact the engine room and wheelhouse were in Tokyo Bay for surrender of the Japanese. The ship still carries the battle ribbons earned during the war.

We watch the great lake freighters all the way from New Zealand through the live cams at Duluth, Soo Locks and other places like Marine city. There is always something happening both on and off the water. This video has given us another perspective. Thank you. Up until know I have only been able to guess how they load the cargo.

Lee A. Tregurtha was originally built as the fleet oiler USS Chiwawa AO-68 in 1942, and received two battle stars for participating in the Battle of Convoy UGS-6 and the Invasion of Southern France in 1943 and 44 respectively. Later she was transferred to the Pacific Fleet, and was one of the ships present in Tokyo Bay when WW2 ended in August of 1945. In 1946 she was decommissioned and brought to the Great Lakes where she was rebuilt as an ore carrier with a new 510ft midsection, where she has served since.

That is really young for a Captain. They must not go by seniority anymore with these present day mish mash of multiple companies now that have bought now own these ships. Earrings make him look less respectable. Wear them in your off time Captain
