A Keyboard With a Touch Panel On The FRONT??

The AM 65 Less or AM Compact Touch is a new board by Angry Miao. It features a touch panel with some really awesome functions on the front and it works pretty well. I really didn't touch how comfy this was going to be, but it ended up being outstanding and working extremely well.
I wasn't a fan of the lack of split back space but it's not a deal breaker for me personally but probably will be for someone. The board sounds outstanding in it's stock config (if you get the fully built version) and stabs are really well tuned.

i can see how the keyboard design was inspired by the delorean! if you look up a side profile picture of a delorean and look at the front of the car from the front wheels forward, you can see that same design where its that wedge shape with the two tone in the same way

@@incongruous4 when you first look at this keyboard it's clearly a hhkb. 65 is 65. I love 65% layout because it's minimum amount of keys I need and arrow keys are really important to me so using a touch pad to replace those keys is no go for me. Also missing four more keys.

@@ChiefBrianIrons it is hhkb 60% except the backspace and \ need to exchange rows. It is mislabeled but we all have working eyes to look at it and see what the layout is really like so idc what they call it

I could see the delorean, if only with a side by side comparison. I can see the different coloured front piece and touch pad grille like the delorean. Wish it had a lifted front or black piece underneath the front for that delorean shape though. Bit weird having hhkb layout and not split backspace, my one gripe.

so super high front height forces you to use wrist rest, but then you cannot use the touch pad.... now you have to buy their Maglev Wrist Rest. 200iq

LOL nah its not an uncomfy front height at all, its on the higher side of what i normally use but definitely not out of the real of unusable.

Do you think the touchpad would work as part of your regular workflow? Or do you think you'd just end up using a layer for arrow keys, or resorting to the mouse?

Ive been using it for daily tasks with no issue to some degree in my photo editing but only when it doesnt need to be as precise, otherwise its regular arrows for me.

@@alexotos just wondering who the target is i think? its a premium prebuilt with a substantial price tag that hhkb purists wont want to touch with a 10ft pole, and would tell you there's no way you need a touch pad. feels like an solution engineered by forcing a layout for aesthetic reasons. genuinely think the tech is cool though and hope the people who do get it enjoy it and dont bounce off the layout too hard if its their first board.

@@pyoo05 It actually come with base kit and the price is not absurdly high (starting from 366 USD with early bird discount). The front height is quite average among those with gasket or leaf-spring mount.

@@pyoo05 but the touch panel is surely something needed to be reviewed and tested. 2 stage adjustable leaf spring on the other hand is something new.

@@pyoo05 I think for the price its quite cheap, yes the touchpad is a gimmick and the HHKB Layout is a hard sell for most people. But as a whole package its quite cheap. For 400usd you get a keyboard with RGB, great build quality with a brass weight, a unique mounting style (leaf spring), wireless charging and bluetooth, its also come with a quality carrying case (atleast mine does).

It seems like they are working on the PCB with split BS. As an HHKB user, finding a good-looking HHKB layout keyboard is hard. My only complaint is the name of the keyboard.

Did you solder in your own switches or does it sound like this completely stock? Sounds surprisingly good for a prebuilt Edit whoops I should have watched the last bit. $400 for a prebuilt puts it in an odd space though, not sure who they're targeting

Looking at Indiegogo campaign they have reach their target goal so clearly they have audience. Its one of those keyboards that divides peoples opinion love it or hate it

odd that they went the indigogo route and found success. And yeah, definitely seems like a controversial board. Still makes me wonder who wants a $400 prebuilt when the competition is pretty stiff at that price point with tons of mid-end customs to choose from

@@incongruous4 have to agree on Indiegogo campaign makes no sense since they are already established company. Normal group buy would of made sense. Also Indiegogo takes certain percentage of the funds raised so yeah this makes no sense.

I think the reason they say it’s inspired by the Dollorean is because the key caps resemble the buttons and the case follows the redo of the color scheme

Honestly it felt rather natural, it definitely is nice to use why doing light promising and doing some text editing but its not as good during things that more accurate presses. I dont think its gimmicky as much as I did prior to testing it.

I don't think it's meant to be mouse replacement, it just used for arrow keys but I could be wrong. Also this keyboard doesn't look like the type you would travel with

2:15 your comment frustrates me. (and i feel the same way, the touchpad is useless to most people. the mun kb has it for 200$) they actually removed negative feedback on their discord. they removed the middle finger emoji (x7 reactions) to a few posts that were just self promotion. the WHOLE REASON they created this kb was the touchpad. that's it. so saying most people wont use the touchpad is like saying this kb is overpriced and gimmicky. you know, because they got so much hate over their name, they actually changed it. they don't have the balls to stick to the new name, so they have to say "AM 65 Less and AM Compact Touch" every time it gets mentioned.
