What a RESPLENDENT representative for the HOUSEHOLD CALVARY Horses 🐴💙. Tears in my eyes as I watched the Major General having to say goodbye to a friend and fellow Officer he'd been with so long 😢, it must be hard for him also to know he's not going to see such a MAGNIFICENT fellow everyday. Thank You for your service and those many hours of standing guard ❤️🤍💙. May he live out his life in peace in sunny grassy fields with his other fellow Officer retirees before him 🙏🌞❤️. horse is probably older than the soldier. they get 2 years in the household guard during their military service if they can get in, so 'hydrabad' has seen a few come and go!

Wonder if he will still be ridden or going gentle hacks in the country side it keeps them going and stops stiffness by gentle riding them just because they reach a certain age doesn't mean they can't be ridden hope he enjoys being in country side I have horses she is 25 this year and young at heart I ride her I go for gentle hacks across the country side vet says it good for my horse stops stiffness 🇬🇧

Soldiers are very soft inside and sentimental we build friendships and bonds that the Outside world never experience saying Goodbye is not easy but its a road we all go down we join as a Mr or a Ms and we have our time going through the ranks and then one day you walk out the gate as a Mr or a Ms again and go back to the outside world ?? This Horse has done the very same thing he was more then likely born in a field or a yard of some kind to a mother and he left that life for a Army Life He has four legs i have two but we have both had the same experience where the Army becomes our new family have a super retirement its just a shame you cant attend a reunion But you dont need too you will be surrounded by lots of friends who have served in the same world you served what better way to end your days HUG old boy and farewell

They have holidays by the sea and exercised every day. Just because of the horses being startled by a very loud unexpected noise which probably would have made humans jump as well, you always get someone alleging things. Funny they never mentioned anything before the incident on Wednesday!

I don't know much about those things, but I believe there's a KZbin channel devoted to the Household Cavalry, which provides such information and more. I must look it up myself when I have more free time. I know that the horses are sent to pastures at Melton Mowbray for a break occasionally, and they have summer "holidays" at the sea-side every year. 🙂

The Household Cavalry purchases the horses from Ireland aged 3/4 years old then trained for around 10 months for their ceremonial duties . Some will be in the Household Cavalry Band , some do the Musical Ride all do ceremonial duties at State occasions . Their names are chosen on passing out ( not literally of course ) using the alphabet next letter is Z . They are exercised daily along Rotten Row in Hyde Park next to the Barracks and go for regular breaks in Melton Mowbray out at grass . In June they have a 3 week holiday and go to the beach running on the sand and in the sea which is very good for their legs ! On retirement they go to The Horse Trust initially to wind down , some are " adopted " by retired Troopers or carefully selected members of the public .So Hyderabad and another Harvester who retired at the same time will be around 19/20 years old . There are some great videos of them on the beach and also at The Horse Trust .
