Agreed, this should have been the closing scene, with the kiss as it was in the trailer. Definitely a winning pair. You could see a twinkle in their eyes 😍

There's also a clip of this scene in the trailer where they kiss on the crane, that would have been perfect as the last shot, instead of the fade out of them just looking at each other. As is, they don't show a proper kiss in the whole film.

My grandmother told me about this particular film. She adored the whole thing and would love to have appeared in it.The films version ( Men in top hats etc) WAS more dreamlike, which I think was the Director's intention. The Cowboy versionwas more 'Little Gal in calico' and more immediate. I am at the moment studying Film Direction and Writing at college.SO THERE !!

I don't think this version was replaced with the top hat and tails version. That version is in the beginning of the movie before she meets Melvin. But Donald O'Connor is in the tail end farm version, so, I'm assuming that version was intended to go at the end of the movie to cap it off. I wonder why they cut it. They probably just decided to book end it with him accidentally bumping her again.

Metro had a habit of cutting numbers from their musicals, because the movies could then fit more easily into a double bill. Remember double bills?!

Couldn’t find the lyrics anywhere, so here it is if you need it (do let me know if I got anything wrong) ☺️ A lady loves the simple things She loves her dreams tied up with apron strings There are no yachts in all her plans Just little pots and pans! In the doorway she’ll wait for his warm caress And he’ll be handsome, well more or less But he will notice that brand new dress Saying you look nice, oh never mind the price A lady loves that average guy Who just adores her homemade apple pie The apple pie he knows that she bought in a bakery When with her goodnight kiss he will be endowed She’ll have him high on a cloud above But most of all a lady loves to love And what is more a lady loves to live And what is more a lady loves to love

This was a better ending for the movie. It is a contrast to the first song. That was a dream, this is reality. That was her before Melvin, and this is what she truly is or has become. They kissed here at the end as shown in the trailer. Sad they ditched this. This music was the main theme. They could've just added it to the chosen ending and include the kiss in the trailer. Give me the tape!
@sisterluke
@sisterluke 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, it reminds me of how in Singin' in the Rain, they ditched her solo song "Lucky Star" towards the beginning of the film and I'm not really sure, but maybe they needed to shorten the movie but the ending had "I'm You're Lucky Star" in refrain at the very end, and when I see the deleted scene, I'm thinking, wow that made sense because the two songs form a theme or connection.

I like this a lot, but I think that it would have been better not as a replacement for the opening song, but the end. It's what it looks like it was intended for, based on the interactions of the characters. It would have been nice to have something this at the end of the movie, as I thought it ended sorta abruptly, right after the climax. Great movie!

And I love the setting. They should have kept this for the ending, as a reprise maybe? Oh Debbie! Can someone send the lyrics? I don't understand the third line.

Well, casting Lucille Ball instead of Angela Lansbury in Mame was stupid. It could be argued casting the lovely, but tone deaf and dubbed Audrey Hepburn instead of Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady was kinda stupid. There were a lot of movie musicals that were a bit goofed.

Richard, just fabulous! Except the tempo is a bit fast, a bit runaway horse -which is why a few lyrics are undistinguishable. But the choreogarphy is terriff, and Skip Martin's orchestration is so tantalizing, so right: just the beat under the vocals and the stings to accent the rests. Wow. An amazing find. Where did you get this? Have you access to more?
