To be completely fair, it’s not Dottie’s job to manage Kit’s jealousy, and Kit does not show any concern for Dottie unless there’s something she wants from her (i.e. getting Kit to Chicago, warning her to leave the dance hall, etc,) No “have you heard from Bob recently?” I say this as a youngest, less physically talented sister. It just is that way, sometimes. 🤷‍♀️

100% for my part Kit, though slightly sympathetic, is one of the villains of the story. The sympathy is given by Dottie, who though she can't help give into the sibling ribbing, which Kit takes too serouslu die tonher insane jelousy,, loves her sister more than Kit can see, again due to her jealousy. Lol, been watching this movie since thw 80s, and I still can't get with Kit. She's such a whiney, weak, brat throughout. If she had simply relaxed, she would have been a much better player and sister. She's one of my least favorite film characters of all time. I get yin&yan but she was WAY too much for this cinephile. 😆

28:50 I bet you both have older siblings. Dottie is doing EVERYTHING for Kit. She wouldnt even go to the league, Kit wanting to go is the only reason she did. I totaly get why Kit feels so left behind, I really do... But its not Dotties fault. Shes doing everything she can to level out the playing field. Not backing Kit up i this situation was a purely "Whats best for the game" situation. It was not personal in anyway, 1% personal in this situation and Dottie wouldve pushed for Kit to stay in the game. Im the oldest of my siblings. I tried for *_decades_* to encouage my brother, to cheer him on in his sucesses. He still hated me cuz I was better. Didnt matter that whatever we did I had done it 2 years longer than he had. The fact that i was "better" at it made him quit and hate me. Some things he was WAY better at if comparing him at 6 months and me at 6 months. But since I had years head start I was still better right there and then compared to him. Younger siblings think its so easy to be the other one... Its not, its like being a father (or in this case mother) to them, you WANT to be their frined, you WANT them to succeed, but all you get back is jealousy and hate. Its the hardest thing Ive ever had to deal with, including my parents dying. My brother hating me fo "being better" when all I wanted was for him to succeed is the worst thing Ive ever had to deal with... still to this day. EDIT: BTW, Dottie 100% let that last ball go on purpose.

You all didn't even notice that Madonna was in this movie. She was 'Mae", the one smoking on the ballfield and dancing in that club, and her friend was "Doris", played by Rosie O'Donnell. In real life, I'm not sure about now, but back then, Madonna and Rosie were best friends. The first inaugural season of the AAGPBL began in 1943. There was no such thing as "sexual harassment" laws during that time. As a matter of fact, It wasn't until 1980 that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) actually issued regulations defining sexual harassment in the workplace and stating it was a form of sex discrimination prohibited by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. I was 23 years old in 1980 and began working in 1975. My personal experience in my first 5 years of working before there were laws to protect against sexual harassment were rampant with that kind of behavior. Women have made great strides over the years, and I really appreciate the empathy you showed for the treatment of those women. Your Mamas raised you right! Thanks for a great reaction, guys! ✌💙✌

Hey guys, really liked this reaction.😊 I enjoy watching reactions to this movie because it is one of my favorites. So, of course, I had to watch yours. The All American Girls Professional Baseball League lasted for 12 Seasons (1943-1954) The actual man that founded it was Philip K. Wrigley, the chewing gum mogul. Tryouts were held @ Wrigley Field in Chicago. The 1st year, the women were only chosen by scouts from a local softball league, but expanded later to other softball leagues. Wrigley wanted the teams to by in locations that were reasonable travel distance to Chicago so it was considered a Midwestern League. The names of the teams in the movie were actual team names. Wrigley owned the League from 1943-1945. In 1945, ownership went to wealthy publicist Arthur Meyerhoff. He owned the League from 1945-1951. From 1951-1954, the teams owned themselves. The game that the women played was a hybrid of softball & baseball. For the 1st few Seasons they played something closer to underhand fast pitch softball. The distance between the pitcher's mound & home plate was shortened by 20ft & the distance between bases was shortened by 25ft. In 1948, they started pitching overhand, the ball went from 12" in circumference to 10 3/8" which was still larger than the regulation baseball @ 9" or 9 1/4", the distance between the pitcher's mound & home plate was lengthened by 10ft. During their final Season in 1954, they played with a regulation baseball, the distance between the mound & home was standard & the distance between bases was moved to 5ft shy of standard. Former Major League players usually managed the teams. During the early years, the women were paid $45-$85 a week (2023 equivalent is $792-$1,497 a week.) which was well above average for women @the time. The varying pay was dependent on your skills as a player. The women did have to attend Charm School. They were ladies after all. They had to follow Rules of Conduct which were: no short hair, no smoking/drinking alcohol in public places, no pants & they must wear lipstick @ all times. Getting caught breaking those rules would result in: $5 fine for 1st offense. $10 fine for 2nd Suspension for 3rd. One player was fired for cutting her hair short. The League Theme song they sing in the movie is the actual Theme song with one minor change, instead of "Irish men" they say "Irish ones". Even though I don't know if u r going to read this, I just wanted to drop some knowledge.😊

Some of the people were loosely based on real people in the league. Jimmy Dugan was loosely based on Jimmie Foxx and Hack Wilson, who both had superstar careers shortened by injury and alcohol. Geena Davis has a striking resemblence to Dottie Green, but was actually loosely based on Green's teammate, Dottie Kamenshek. Fun fact: former Major League Baseball player Casey Candaele was the son of AAGPBL star Helen Candaele, who was league batting champ in 1945, and stole over 400 bases in a 6 year career.

i used to think that (Kit being too selfish and shallow) then after a recent viewing it hit me that kit has to climb the mountain, face her major challenge, which is dottie. kit's story mimics the public's reaction to the whole league. kit is the core to the movie. very few people thought it would work but they did it. they switched from softball to hardball and made it work just enough to keep baseball alive. Kit has to finally crash through her sister's shadow, literally crash through her body, and Dottie did not drop the ball on purpose, Kit finally summits, and beats her sister. We all win when that underdog triumphs. Dottie despite being cool and pretty is also cold and continually says and shows she doesn't care much for baseball as a life.

It wasn't really that Kit wasn't pretty enough; it's that she didn't hit the ball when he was watching and he didn't see her pitch, which she's usually good at.

You two I guessed talk over somethings because you world ask what something was right after it was already explained. And the people who suggested and voted for this movie didn't tell you it was based on a true story or real life events? It's always interesting to me of the people who feel for Kit. She is such a spoiled brat. Lol! Then dottie gave her the win because she was sick a baby. I'm a sport purest. You either earn it or you don't. Lol Dottie let the ball go on purpose. They made a point to signal that result in the movie. Remember how they made a point to show that dottie held on to the ball earlier AFTER getting hit. Dottie also left because of kit. Kit cried and got everything handed to her. And yes the older women at the end age the real women that played and who some of the characters were based off and they did change their names.

Back then, dancing was HUGE. Everyone learned it from one another. Nowadays you'd have to go to a dance studio (ala Arthur Murray) and pay for classes.

Women did a lot of jobs during WWII, not just baseball. They worked in factories, made airplanes and even flew the airplanes to deliver them. When the war ended, they were all expected to go back to be housewives. The men needed the jobs since they were the breadwinners of the family. Sexual harassment was common and considered acceptable. That was the culture at the time. Women have fought for years to be accepted as equals. We’ve made a lot of progress, but there’s still a ways to go- Deb

i really enjoyed how invested you, particularly Zay, were at the ending. I think Zay felt so good because Kit overcame something difficult and personal, that had been plaguing her.. and he knows how good it feels to overcome or meet a milestone.

Besides “Field Of Dreams”, “Radio”, “The Natural”, and “Rudy” for great sports movies… I would highly recommend the movie “61*”. And yes, the movie title has an asterisk in it. It has a few faces that you might recognize and it is directed by the great Billy Crystal. 💙💙💙

There was legit a time in the mid-90's when Swing Dancing was THE social event and everyone took lessons and went out to clubs following bands like the Cherry Poppin' Daddies and their hit Zoot Suit Riot. Seriously. It was right before the brief window when the hottest thing in dance music was techno Gregorian Chants. I'm not kidding.

Garry Marshall plays Mr. Harvey, a successful business man who bankrolls the Women's League. Ira Levinson, the tall thin man with glasses who communicates with the team (and is played by David Strathairn) is employed by Harvey. I believe it was explained early in the script. Garry Marshall, by the way, was a famous producer/director/actor. He is the father of Penny Marshall, the director of this movie, and who was also an actress, especially popular as a recurring character in "The Odd Couple" series and as a lead in "Laverne and Shirley", where she played Laverne.

There have always been comedies that are start-to-finish jokes, but especially in the 80s most comedies were dramas with jokes. The ones that hold up over time have good stories well executed along with memorable jokes.

My High School Principal was a member of this league and is in the Baseball HOF in Cooperstown. I didn't know this while she was my HS Principal. She never talked about it. I learned about years later when this movie came out and I was up in Cooperstown the year they inducted the women of baseball and saw her name on the list.

According to Screen Rant, "While some crucial aspects of the film did exist, like the AAGPBL and the Rockford Peaches, much of the movie was made up too. Dottie was loosely based on Peaches player Dorothy "Dottie" "Kammie" Kamenshek, but other than Davis' character, all the others were fictionalized. There was no rivalry between Dottie and her sister, and the story about Dottie's husband being a soldier whose dispatched after an injury was also fictional. Tom Hanks' character Jimmy Dugan was also created by film writers. However, he was inspired by a real-life baseball player named Jimmie Foxx, who, like Hanks' character, dealt with alcoholism in his life."

The guy you said you had seen before who played Mr. Harvey is Garry Marshall, the director Penny Marshall's father (correction: brother). He produced a ton of TV shows back in the '70s and one in particular that starred his daughter was LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY. And if you have seen that show in one of its reruns this may be where you know him from because he did appear in it in a few episodes. Jimmy Dugan was a composite character based partly on Red Sox slugger Jimmy Foxx who was a manager in the women's baseball league and Hack Wilson whose alcoholism destroyed his career. Mr Harvey and the Harvey bar was based on chicago Cubs owner Phillip K. Wrigley of chewing gum fame who with a few other owners (including Branch Rickey of 42 fame) started the league.
