A left wing community should be safe

There’s a lot of focus on trying to convert right wingers into left wingers within so called ‘left tube’.
It’s a lot more important to create an accommodating and safe environment for marginalised people, which you’re not doing if you keep welcoming right wingers into it.

I couldn't care less about converting right wingers, myself. The only critique I have of what you've said here is that for me, it's not about safety. Not yet. Making marginalised people feel safe is a bit further down the road as a goal in my view. First marginalised people need to feel welcome. The reason I'm no longer part of left-tube/breadtube (and haven't been for a long time) is that I never felt particularly welcome in the first place, and that feeling steadily grew over time until any sense of community that I once felt was completely gone. And it still is. It doesn't feel like a community to me at all anymore, but perhaps that is just due to being on the outside looking in. I'm sure many people feel welcome in that part of youtube and I am happy for them. But for folks like me, there isn't really a place there.

Honestly, yes leftist spaces should be open and welcoming. But that doesn't mean we tolerate folks harassing, or bothering other people (take right-wingers who come only to bother the members there). Essentially, I say let them come but be prepared to soundly show them the door if they start to hassle other folks in the room (especially the more vulnerable members). Discussion involves respect from all parties and more often than not in my cases the visitors from the right rarely are interested in listening or genuinely participating beyond JAQing off ("just asking questions")

A project of de-radicalizing and potentially converting fascists out of their fascism IS an effort to make the world safe for marginalized people. People exist whether they inhabit one's social circle or not and I'll support any effective effort to deny the right more foot-soldiers and propagandists. If that means speaking directly to fence-sitters who've flirted with the right in the past and who have a substantial reach on social media, so be it.

Miss your videos and hearing what you have to say Andy! I have been spending some time in "entry" leftist spaces, and I think this problem is very pertenant there. Lots of people trying to "convert" non lefties talk about this idea of a pipeline for leftism, but I find it hard to see how they could go from these entry spaces to more "strict" rules that would make it safer/more comfortable for marginalized people, when there doesn't seem to be a lot of incentive to improve or consider others more. There is definitely a big divide between people who used to be "right wing" and are now left, and people who didn't take this journey, and I don't think the mix of entry level leftism with "edgyness" and such is good. In some spaces, your ability to repeat theory is considered more valuable that kindness or how you treat people. It seems very backwards to me.

So if right wing people are not supposed to come in left wing spaces. Do left wing people come into right wing spaces for dialogue? If not the spheres are completely isolated. And where are the arbitrary lines between. The left, center and the right. And what is the extreme left and extreme right? In communication even the terms and definitions are confused and can differ depending on the group you are in.

@@thijsjong Left wingers can watch right wing videos and right wingers can watch left wing videos. They don’t need to get chummy with each other to do that. Same goes for any other medium of political communication besides videos. I explained this perfectly clearly in the video, but as usual I’m having to repeat myself.

Not only is their privilege showing, it isn't even tactically wise. Most of the world is made up of members of one or more marginalized group, even more so true of the left, so just by numbers, we risk alienating more people then we stand to gain. Also better people. At this late stage, we don't even really have time. I mean, sorry? If you've made it into adulthood and you are fash, I'll convert you on the field. I'm putting my energy toward helping the people that have been here, all along, people I've seen in action, and people like them online as well. I ain't got a platform, but if I did, and I somehow got the chance to hug and kiss some famous youtube chud, I'm not doing it. Not going to have the important people seeing me do that shit.

It's funny, the main thing that bothers me about the leftists I know closely is their intolerance and segregationist approach to things in general. One might argue that implying that conservative capitalists are inherently bigoted is intolerant behaviour in and of itself. Most liberal capitalists would agree. It's the subversive left that I'm taking a stand against at the voting booth. Whether I'm voting liberal or conservative. I vote liberal 50 percent of the time. It's just that I'm a capitalist. Who isn't sucking up to the socialists for liberal votes on the tv.
