I’ll never forget seeing StarFox at a SEARS gameplay kiosk for the first time. It was absolutely mind blowing coming from a SNES. What a great time to be a kid!

Played it on release and it truly was majestic. Still to this day, its magic has not faded. Thank you all for doing this. PS: bc of StarFox I play all my games "inverted" (you are all the "inverted" not me!) PSS: a remake of the original is what I want indeed!

For me personally, SNES games were expensive, and something I might get one of a year for Christmas, so there was a lot of sharing between friends. It was a big part of identity, what could be played at any specific friend's house. I read everything I could about this game before it was even out. But actually getting a new game like this, within a year of release when it would be the most expensive, would be nigh impossible. The on a family vacation trip to London, I happened to see it in a small electronics store window, weeks before it was even supposed to be out. Back then there was less control with what stores did, if they received products early. Oddly priced at 25GBP, instead of around what amounted to 60GBP in Denmark, they probably had no idea what they had. I promptly spend all of my vacation money on the very first day there. Best decision ever. I played this gem to death, and the rest is history.

Helping us relive the joys of Star Fox is the very heart of this video and I can't state enough how much I appreciate this❤. May we never forget how far we've come.

Best Star Fox documentary on KZbin. I still remember the first time I saw the game on my cousin's TV in his basement, and couldn't believe it was on the Super Nintendo.

12:52 I never made the comparison between Arcade Daytona and a Dreamcast racer but yeah “here’s what’s possible on $5k of hardware - there’s going to come a time when this is cheap enough for the home, we need to get in on this.” 24:07 NNNICE visualization of how the levels are laid out. I’d been looking at the Starfox EX romhack and they mentioned tweaks to this level layout to get the game running at 60 FPS on a simulated overclocked super fx. 26:06 Technology is all fine and good, but having a compelling theme with character designs, memorable music etc is what takes it all to the next level. … BTW that laser projection at the trade show. 😮 ❤❤❤ the list of indies inspired by starfox - flat shaded polys with stippled colors is Just a LOOK. College bud of mine was inspired to pursue a career in GPU design because of StarFox.

great documentary. the original star fox is not only my favorite game in the entire star fox series (nothing since has ever matched its sense of atmosphere and mood, IMHO) but my single favorite video game of all time, and definitely a pivotal reason why i became a visual / graphic / multimedia designer.

In 93 when I played for the first time I remember it said Fox's dad was last seen near the special black hole stage you could get, so when I finally got in I was determined to find him Spoiler the whole stage is a loop and you arent meant to...Gutted though

This is an enjoyable video, and the editing and interviews with industry greats like Dylan Cuthbert and Shigeru Miyamoto add a professional, documentary-feel to this video. But, the one thing that irks me about this video (although it's not the video's fault) is that it reminds me of how invisible Star Fox is outside of a nostalgic context or maybe SSB. For example, videos about Mario's history will show people waxing nostalgic about Super Mario Bros 1/2/3, Super Mario World, Mario 64, etc. Then, after they finish getting nostalgic about old Mario games, they'll turn to the future and see games like Mario Wonder and that billion-dollar Mario animated movie. Star Fox? Well, the folks in this video and other Star Fox retrospective videos will wax nostalgic about Star Fox and its success back then, and they'll talk about the development of past Star Fox titles. They'll talk about how much they played Star Fox SNES & 64. This video even features great remakes of music from Star Fox games like Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox SNES. Then, after they finish getting nostalgic about Star Fox games, that's it. This series has no future. It hasn't been touched in about 7 years, going on 8 this year. Nintendo doesn't acknowledge any Star Fox game after SF64 that came out in this century, so it makes the series feel ancient. With that said, that's the importance of videos like this one. They help to keep Star Fox's legacy alive, which is especially necessary given the lack of attention that this series gets nowadays. This was a great video!

How come this video has only 5k views? Thank you so much for making such a great video, beautiful insight with the original developers. They’re right by saying that what the fans want is what the original Star Fox was. I got the Wii U game and was very disappointed, even if it has good ideas. Is nice to try new things that led to games like Zelda and Metroid and Star Fox, but sometimes an incremental iteration is enough, because too much experimentation just for the sake of something different loses the appeal of why people were interested in the first place. Still, I loved the DS game, a hybrid of 64 and 2.

Lets hope for that remake on Switch 2 from these developers ... LowPoly with global illumination and raytracing in the style of the original. I love LowPolyStyle even today! The Levels are so cool ... the one on the RedPlanet was hard as hell and the way to Andross was nerv wracking and epic. Also fly inside the Big Ships and blow them up was the coolest thing to do. Music, SoundFx and Characters, Sequences at the end everything top!! Remake and expand the Original Starfox with new levels and a Online Highscore table - Let's Rock'n'Roll !!!!

Very cool. Heard of Argonaut before but wasnt aware they were (part of?) the foundation for 3d Nintendo games. Must be crazy to go over to Japan in your 20s, without the internet, so you dont really know anything about the country to work with one of the biggest companies in your line of work. Personally I am a super fan of SF64 which I only played after the fact on WiiU eshop and then later on 3ds but it holds up so well. I bet if you could fix the framerate of the ogSF it would still be fun as well. The low poly look is still really nice to look at. One little bit of criticism for the video: turn the background music volume down a bit. It was quite distracting for me after a while, especially if it wasnt a chill track.
