I love how much use you're getting out of the "flat disc transforming into a sphere" animation. What I don't love is how some people can see it and think "nah, that's wrong because it just is"

@UCWgUb-_hunVLB1wFzHPHv0Q I think you’re actually a troll, but I’ll respond as if you’re sincere because it’s an important distinction to make. When Jos makes an animation, he’s trying to illustrate an otherwise-difficult-to-visualize real-world phenomenon in simple visual terms. In this case, we intuit that flight paths should be straight, which they are when drawn on a globe, but inexplicably aren’t when drawn on a flat plane. Thus flight paths only make economic sense on a globe. Since money talks, airlines aren’t going to fly far out of their way just to pretend the Earth is a globe; the Earth really is a globe and flight paths are actually the shortest routes possible.

There is an even more basic problem with FE that doesn't even involve distances. If you want to travel due East to a destination, on a Globe your compass remains due East for your journey but on a flat Earth, as soon as you move towards your destination, your compass bearing would move from due East (because you are on a different tangent). The observable reality is the former i.e. globe because on a globe, due East follows a straight line (line of latitude) but on a Flat Earth, to maintain a bearing of due East you are following a curve but your destination is no longer due East.. Apart from a N-S bearing i just don't see how compasses can possibly work on an FE.
@tjjones621
@tjjones621 3 жыл бұрын
That is pretty basic alright. But, there is one even more basic.... All flatearthers are holding a map of Earth in their hand. Every single one of them.
@ReinoGoo
@ReinoGoo 3 жыл бұрын
The only straight latitude is the equator. All other directions than east-west are rhumb lines (or loxodromes).
@misterocain
@misterocain 3 жыл бұрын
@@ReinoGoo To clarify, on a globe, all lines of latitude are straight lines when from the perspective of an observer located on a specific latitude. The Equator is merely the one with the greatest diameter. On a Flat Earth all lines of latitude would be circular including the Equator. The Equator however does kill FE dead when taking into consideration the track of the Sun at Equinox i.e. to an observer on the Equator, it rises due East and maintains a straight line that heads due West being directly overhead at Noon. On an FE the Sun would be moving either to left or right of an observer on the Equator. Again observable reality is an FE killer.
@ReinoGoo
@ReinoGoo 3 жыл бұрын
@@misterocain Yes, the parallels are straight perpendicular to the earth axis, just as the equator. And the celestial equator is straight in the same direction, on all latitudes. On the equator it is plumb and the axis is level, on the poles it is level and the axis is plumb. Would be fun to see that on an animation.
@ReinoGoo
@ReinoGoo 3 жыл бұрын
@@misterocain The startrail of the sun is a straight line at the equinoxes, curves to the north north of the equator and curves to the south south of the equator. The horizon rotating at an angle makes the orbit over the horizon shorter and more curved in the winter and longer and less curved in the summer.

Well, the "straight lines" on a sphere are great circles. (geodesics) These will never be projected as straight lines, except meridians in the AE projection.
@Sableagle
@Sableagle 3 жыл бұрын
You can do an AE projection centred on the airport of your choice and get the flight routes to and from that airport as radial straight lines, and for any individual flight route you can centre an AE projection anywhere along its length and get the route as a straight line through the centre, but that only applies to the route or routes in question not to all the others, and the fact it can be done for _any_ airport and _and_ route suggests that the Earth is the same shape when viewed from _any_ direction, like a sphere.

When did you last fly in a commercial airliner that you felt, while enjoying the in-flight meal, that you were hurtling along at 520 miles per hour? You didn't, right? Because the plane, during the meal time, is flying at a constant speed there is no acceleration to "feel". Same with the Earth. It does not vary in its spin, so no acceleration is ever felt. These lines are straight because the program that created the flight routes uses a globe program, taking flat data, putting it through a transform, and mapping a globe, so then when you map transformed flights, they will only fit to what they have been transformed to. NASA and the military own GPS and flight data. It's theirs first to manipulate.

@@josleys I don't have access to NASA database, but Robert Simmons did already say it Infront of you that NASA uses flat strips of data. That's them doing a mockery putting the truth in plane sight. NASA also has flat earth in so many documents, but sorry I can't show you their pretransformed data, they keep that within the organization. Military likes less to know more.

@jaimevivesp

Lets see if I understand you correctly... you are saying that in reality the routes are not straight? Because if the routes were "transformed" to get them straight on a globe, over a flat earth they would be curved. I wonder how no pilot ever discovered they were not following a straight route, but were banking all the time.

The person who made up flat earth did not have a grasp of simple maths and cartography. A simple mathematical model to check the validity of a flat earth map/model, any flat earth map/model would have to have a diameter of at least 25,000 miles to accommodate the worlds oceans and land mass, the problem is that the max distance between any 2 points on the earth is 12,000 miles, a fact known for hundreds of years and which prompted Columbus to try and find a westerly trade route to India, this means any flat earth map/model can have a max diameter of 12,000 miles, this gives only 25% of the area required, do you see the problem and why it makes a flat plane earth impossible? www.quora.com/What-is-the-longest-distance-between-any-two-places-on-earth? There are thousands of flights and sailings every day over 100k flights that safely and accurately navigate the world, how could this be possible on a flat earth with no working map/model suitable for navigation paper or electronic, no tables, offset lists, textbooks, almanacs etc etc? You will find that all modern GPS or GPS/hybrid systems are driven by the WGS1984 globe map/model which is accurate to a few CM's, @@unclejeffthechad9459
