BEYOND THE BLACKBOARD- A LEVEL / GCSE advice

Күн бұрын

I'll help you craft your future at school / college and beyond, by boosting your grades, supporting you university applications and building your future career.
With grades for A level 2020 being higher than they ever have been before we have a unique situation where many more students are meeting their grade requirements for university places.
In this video we discuss a few implications of this. What are universities doing now that the cap of students has been removed? Will next year be more competitive as a result? Will universities honour their original offers? How will they cope with more students than usual?
We answer all this and more in this video.

ABOUT BEYOND THE BLACKBOARD CHANNEL
Hi I’m Ran and I run this KZbin channel called Beyond the Blackboard on how to “live your best life” at GCSE / A levels time and beyond. It’s been 10 years since I left school and I’ve crammed a lot in that time. I want to share what I’ve learned in my time as a Science teacher, working across many industries and travelling the world. To help you with questions like “how do I get top grades?”, “what I do after school?”, even “who do I want to be? If that sounds interesting subscribe to keep up with weekly vids and please do comment any topics you’d like me to cover :)

for the Autumn exams will the grade boundaries be significantly lower due to the grade inflation this year as if not wouldn’t it put the autumn people at a disadvantage?

This one is really hard to say as it’s an unrepresentative pool compared to usual. It could be all the top performers deciding to take it meaning higher grade boundaries, or the lower performers meaning lower. It’s really unclear!

Hello. I’m thinking about if I should go back for another year of A-levels (if possible) to redo them. I really don’t know what to do, since I’ve been told by everybody to just accept my unconditional from the university of Gloucestershire. Thing is I want to do better and go to a very acclaimed university with a great reputation. I’ve been predicted C’s my entirety of Sixth Form but I feel like this is down to the fact I haven’t known how to study or how to do exam technique properly. Ideally I would want to get triple A but I don’t know how realistic that is for me. Everyone also keeps telling me that next year will be uncertain due to Covid, and if there is another lockdown or exams get cancelled (again) I’ll be in exactly the same situation I’m in right now and will be worse off. I don’t know what to do, since I want to work hard, get good A levels and go to a great university, but it’s a huge risk to redo. Any advice would be ideal thank you.

Also I know it sounds insane but I'm moving into my accommodation in a few days and I'm not sure if uni is right for me at this point. I just do not feel ready at all.

Hey Joshua. I hear you it’s a really tough decision to make right now. Firstly I know university of glos well as I’m from Cheltenham and know some great people from there who had a great time. But I understand that you may want somewhere more prestigious. I’m guessing you’ve already paid accommodation costs and tuition fees so maybe it would be worth going there and getting a feel for the place and see how it feels in a couple of weeks. If you want to then retake you A levels then I would. It’s your future and you’re the one who needs to live with the decision! I know people from school who retook their a levels and managed to get into better places. And you’re right it is unclear about competitiveness next year but that’s not necessarily a reason not to do it. Headline if you’re not happy with your decision you always have room to change it, even if it may seem drastic at the time.

@@beyondtheblackboard-alevel8984 Thanks man. Can I also ask if I was to redo my A-levels, what options would be available for me right now? I went to my local school's Sixth Form, not a college. I'm not sure if they would accept me to redo at this stage as the term has begun or is about to start. Furthermore, if I can't do it there, what other options do I have?
