Regarding that stuff about outliers are you basically trying to say that if I am given the raw data then I CANNOT take the lowest value on boxplot as my boundary and instead i have to work it out manually

Hello sir, i am quite confused as to when i should add one and when i should just divide by 2 to get the median position. my text book seems to just add one so that it gets a whole number but that doesnt seem very statistical lol Thanks for the help

The best rule of thumb is: If you have the raw data, add 1. If you have grouped data, just divide by 2.
