Wow! Wasn't expecting that 😮 from one little plant. I'm going to order some copper wire to go around canes and push them into the soil with my crops next year. So many testimonials from people who have doubled and tripled their harvest. Lovely video Ruth as always. Thank you ❤🌱

I was totally surprised to. I could hear people in their back so had to calm down my excitement 🤣 I had some peelings that had grown shoots so put them in the bottom of two new pots and replanted the broad beans on top. I’ve not heard of the copper wire and canes idea RHG. You will have to show us when you plant up ❤️

@@ruthsmith2367 it's worth getting excited about 👌 you've provided evidence that we can literally grow a crop of spuds from peelings that 99% of people would either throw in the bin or composter. That right there, is sustainable, micro vegetable farming👌 I'll be doing the copper wire thing next year. Trying to get every base covered for future. 👊💜👊🌱

Hi Miss Ruth! Congratulations on your surprise potato harvest! You should grow some next season. I didn't grow them for years because I thought they were difficult. But they're so easy! I use one of those potato bags. But in the ground, or in any container, you'll get delicious potatoes! Take care and stay safe, my friend. ❤🙏

It is true that potatoes love being planted next to beans, they always grow well. 🥔🥔🥔 Just peel the green off of the potato and you will be fine. I know it takes around a pound in weight of the green before it has an effect on your health. 😊

We had 2 potato plants this year that appeared from nowhere, I presume they were leftovers we didn’t harvest, and great tip about the beans growing alongside the potatoes, will definitely do that next year, I’ve started putting kitchen scraps straight into my troughs that I use for veggies because I have no room for a compost bin, got hubby to dig out a few shrubs so I can plant edible stuff, bet you enjoyed your free potatoes, nature always finds a way.

Hi Lesley I’ve not had them yet but I will. That’s great two unexpected potato plants awesome. Yes I’ve seen people do that with veg scraps but I’ve not done it before. All nutrients going back into the ground must be a good thing. I just have a couple of old style black rubber bins with lids I throw old soil and veg scraps in and any worms I find. It seems to work. I’ve noticed lots of houses up for sale near us. I hope they don’t know something I don’t 😀

@@ruthsmith2367 Quite a few houses/bungalows near me too, (the latter is because of an aged community) I’ve also noticed that there aren’t many sold signs, mind you some people are still spending like there’s no tomorrow especially in b&ms, I got some Yorkshire teabags in Tesco this week £5.49, same as the budget stores,,, but, there were 240 tea bags compared to the 210 everywhere else, didn’t realise till I got home so I will go back for a couple more boxes tomorrow, hopefully for the same deal.

@@kidzngrandkidz840 Yes probably it’s the age of the community. I went in Tesco today. I bought a box of their own red box tea bags to try. I keep saying to hubby do you want more coffee. He says no I’ve got loads. Then he tells me I have loads of tea, so I said just because you don’t want to stock up on coffee, doesn’t mean I can’t stock up on tea. So it went in the trolley. We will all need a brew when the poop hits 🤣🤣🤣

@@ruthsmith2367 I think people might need something stronger than tea, especially the “day dreamers” I got some Typhoo 1 cup tea bags in Asda about a month ago £1 a box, I got 1 for the food bank and 1 for my elderly neighbour who’s no idea what’s going on and at 95 I can’t burden her, I’m keeping my Yorkshire for myself 😂

Hi Tonette 🙋🏻‍♀️ I always thought they were poisonous 😀 Sometimes bags of potatoes can have green bits on them, so I just cut that bit off. I might have to make something extra special with these 🤣 I hope your doing well. Sending lots of love to you ❤️

@@ruthsmith2367 This is what I read as an official statement from the US government, as they use state universities for much of their research. As you know, Idaho is a major potato-growing state. ( I lived there for a short time and I can tell you that you would never believe the amount of potatoes where I was!): "According to the University of Idaho Cooperative Extension Service, "Potato tubers are specialized stems of a potato plant, and tubers that are exposed to light, will naturally turn green. The green is nothing more than more than chlorophyll, a harmless compound found in all green plants. However, when tubers turn green, there is usually an increase in a glycoalkoloid compound called solanine. Consequently, it is important to store potatoes in the absence of light to prevent greening. Tubers with a high concentration of solanine will taste bitter, and can be harmful if eaten in large quantities. To be safe, it is best to not eat the green part of tubers." You do not need to discard green potatoes. Just peel the skins, shoots and any green color; that is where the solanines concentrate." I hope that helps.

@@tonette6592 Wow thanks for the info. Yes Idaho do the best instant mashed potato in my opinion. I bet there were fields after fields of potatoes growing 😀 Yep just cut off the green bits and keep your potatoes in the dark. Also not near onions as I believe the onions make them sprout. Apparently an apple with you potatoes helps to stop them sprouting but I haven’t found that helps. Thanks Tonette your lovely and very helpful ❤️
