A Light in the Darkness

In 2022, groundwork, Friends of the Earth South Africa, launched a community-owned renewable energy project. They installed solar demonstration units in three locations where partner organisations face electricity challenges. Communities actively engaged in project implementation, showcasing principles of Energy Democracy. Their success emphasizes community ownership and inclusion for a just transition. The goal is to reduce emissions through affordable, community-led, renewable and sustainable energy technology.
