Great Neil Diamond song that I've been listening to a lot lately. I like the Monkees' version.

JJ, First off let me say “Thank You!” for teaching me so much, and for your contribution to the world of guitar players. You have no doubt changed many people’s lives for the better and you should be proud of that. You obviously have a great talent for hearing a song and applying your excellent guitar skills to decipher what is really going on. I have witnessed a many guitar players in my life, but none quite talented as you in this skill. My name is Michael and I am a 63 year old Computer Engineering teacher. I have been playing the guitar since 1974. I never took a lesson and don’t read notation. I always tried to figure out what they were doing, but could never match your skill. I found you because I was looking for someone who could play “Good Morning Starshine”. I saw a few covers, but when I saw you play it I said “Wholly Cr*p this guy has nailed it!” and you did. I have since waited in anticipation for every song you do. Some I’m not interested in learning, but I know you have them right too. Keep up the GREAT work you are doing and THANK YOU again for the gifts you have given me.

Is that nostalgia in my eyes? Wow... please, more Monkees... they were so influential in my appreciation of songs, learning to write songs and now, still listening and learning from them and many of the 'other' writers like Carol King and Neal Diamond. Boyce and Hart and more. Thanks James for making it look so fun and so easy. You're work helps me play and write better songs. - Ken in Hawaii

Thanks! The G6 is what really makes the song - that's what I was missing.

James , never mind what the mrs says you really need to start buying some decent quality guitars , that top E seems to play havoc on those Gibson's and Martin's you play. the skip or firewood that's all they are good for , or you could donate them to me lol. another great lesson Ty. hope the health is good with you .

Hi JJ. Great video as usual! Quick question: could you tell me the fingering for that F#m chord? I know you use that shape in a lot of your videos but I can never quite get it. Thanks man!
@jamesjames92755 жыл бұрын
Thumb over the top on low E at 2nd fret, ring finger on A string at 4th fret, little finger on D string at 4th fret, index finger barring GBE at 2nd fret.

@@jamesjames9275 Can't you just use the full bar and then ring and pinkie on the 4th fret? Is there a special reason for this fingering?

Neil Diamond song

On the Intro, the guitarist jumps to the G chord early, well-before the accent hit. It's a good detail. The Verse rhythm sounds like a rip-off of Tequila. The Chorus is so dense, it's hard to hear the guitar. I arrived at the same progression (D-G-F#m-Em) but my confidence in it was low. An original live performance by songwriter Neil Diamond hears him playing D-G-A-G, but that's not what the Monkees ultimately went with, I don't think. What really bugs me is hearing the bass play A-C# beneath an Em chord.
