Thanks for watching, I thought I’d share a little history lesson on the Rollin Thunder. Rumor is that it was a Tamiya engineer who bought this and the Frankenstein trucks to base the kits off of 😁

I miss these days of real monster trucks. Back when it was a bunch of good ol boys with a welder and some enginuity .. sure today’s monster trucks can do back flips and things these could never do but these were real trucks, not fiberglass and tubes

Jim Oldaker’s Rollin Thunder was an awesome monster truck (van), I remember watching it on “Battle of the monster trucks” (VHS) back in the 80s, sadly the monster truck scene never really made it to the U.K.
@IowaBudgetRCBashers Жыл бұрын
I was fortunate enough to see Rollin Thunder and many others of the original monster trucks back in the mid to late 80’s. I’ll never forget them and they influence my RC builds 😁 you’ve now got a surge of the modern monster trucks in the uk at least.
@retroshack7897 Жыл бұрын
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers The original monster trucks really were in a league of their own, mainly because they were often real custom trucks / vans that had been mounted on top of a monster chassis. From recollection there was even a monster Vette! Todays monster trucks are awesome in their own right but I still love the classics!…. I guess Tamiya’s Lunchbox is now also a classic! 👍

That was really impressive!! I lived in New York at that time. I missed the birth of honest, REAL Monster Trucks!! I did have the opportunity to watch Tom Meents build his, when I lived in Paxton, IL, but that wS already a tube Chassis/Fibreglass Body.... You were there at Genesis, and that's COOL!! 😎

Apparently Jim Oldaker sold the truck to someone in Japan after he was done with it so it makes sense Tamiya used it as a base for the LB. The original Samson monster truck was what the Clod Buster was modeled after
@IowaBudgetRCBashers Жыл бұрын
Yeah legend has it that a Tamiya exec bought it. From what I read Tamiya took inspiration from Sampson and Excaliber to create the clodbuster. And midnight pumpkin was based off of Darryl Starbird’s Frankenstein
@LehnirAce Жыл бұрын
after rollin' thunder's last show in japan the truck was sold and got repurposed as osaka crusher. currently truck's wherabouts are unknown but its believed that the truck was maybe scrapped

Rumor has it that a Tamiya executive bought it and used it as the foundation for the lunchbox, and then supposedly it got scrapped..
